I use GURU maps on iPhone with a quadlock and a cycling Garmin (830 or 1040) as back up.

Re: Himalayan 452
The looks are getting better but it's definitely too 'soft' now. The harsh horizontal lines of the original on the fork covers and the cooling fins made it look rugged. This is all rounded off lines and much blander I think.

Re: Himalayan 452
I’d not have ruled it out if it solved four problems the original has:
1. The screen was the most noisy and buffeting piece of shit I’ve ever ridden behind 🤣 Almost everyone of any height has problems even with ear plugs.
2. Ground clearance. It’s too low for uk rut-riding. Was constantly having ...

Re: TETers?
Headed to Wales on Saturday. It felt like a significant step up in technicality. Watching the footage back, I was annoyed with how I made hard work of stuff that would have been easier a few mph faster. But solo, with a long ride home due and a still relatively heavy bike, I find going full-send on ...

Re: Chinese bikes
Yeah the gearing change sorts that out. (Although I missed the 14 in wales today). And it smooths out after 1000 miles too.
You get no more speed though- 28hp in an upright position still only buys 80. It’s just 800rpm quieter/more efficient.

Re: Chinese bikes
I guess ‘trust your instincts’ is all I’d say. If you think it’s good then you’re right and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
If you ride it and find nothing but flaws then I’m not sure it getting a bit smoother once it wears in or lengthening the gearing will transform it that much.

Re: Chinese bikes
Yeah, nobody has really commented on dealer back up. Obviously most of the network are established budget type outlets.
I got mine from motorbikesforall.co.uk and the only issue was they built it with one side stand spring (it comes with two). But they shipped one out as soon as I mentioned it ...

Obviously the conspiracy theory is that Honda have paid them to slate it 🤣😉
It is geared low as stock so some of the criticism is valid but adding a 15t front (£9 and a bit of grinding on the chain catcher) or dropping the rear 3 teeth and shortening the chain and the bike is transformed into a ...

Went up the peak district on Monday for a ride to find some interesting back roads and easy green lanes.

Yeah we staged a backlash after the MCN review was clearly nonsense 🤣

Re: TETers?
The Voge really is ace. I don't have millions of bikes under my belt but have had a VStrom, XT660Z, 1150gs and a Himalayan from the 'ADV/mini ADV' segment and this is far and away the most fun I've ever had on any of them.

Re: Road cycling — is it only for the wealthy?
Not really. There's still bikes at every price point.
I raced Crits on my Triban 500 back in the day and I think this new one is even better value! (Because it has enough tyre clearance for gravel tyres so. you could do literally anything on it)

Re: TETers?
Finished the Middle England Trail yesterday. It was quite a good section with lots of trails! Would be fair sketchy in the wet but was simple enough in the dry.
So far then, I've done the 560 mile Great Southern Trail and the 210 mile MET and around 190 miles of the 850 mile Great Western Trail ...
