Re: Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

I guess you had fun and it worked for you which is all that matters but this line ‘ A theory session on a concept of riding’ makes me angry as it’s everything I don’t want from my motorbike riding 🤣🤣

I've read that three times and I've got to be honest, I've no idea what you're talking about ...

Re: Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

For me already firmness on the brakes (harder, earlier) and looking further ahead in the corners. I've already felt the difference on the road.

What riding at speed on the track demonstrated to me was how stable my bike could be (especially the transition from heavy hard braking to back on the ...

Re: Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

Yes I had to fork out!

I had a 2-piece but it shrank. :(

What do you think is the biggest change the course will make to your riding? Would you go again?

Re: Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

Yes Castle Combe publish a list of bikes that may have issues. I went up a few months ago as I'd just fitted a Delkevic exhaust and had no idea if it would be ok and didn't want to find that out on the day!

"Noise limit: STRICT 105 db(A), measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum ...

The best thing about the theory was they did one thing at a time

What sort of things?

Bear in mind as I introduce the theory we were talked through here, other groups may have got different talk since I was in the 'novice/new to track' group - eg we didn't really go through trail braking ...

Re: Innovation

Since when?

Cos possibly the greatest innovation was the wheel.

Aye motorcycles were rubbish before wheels.

Re: Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

You only followed an instructor for the first lap out onto the circuit. Then you were doing your own thing at your own pace for the remainder of the time. If an instructor wanted to show you something they'd come alongside, tap the side of their bike and demonstrate.

edited to add: one chap in our ...

Arguably cars have followed a similar track since they standardised the pedal and gear stick layout?

And bicycles once the safety bicycle was released.

Motorcycle Skills Day - Castle Combe

I was able to do the Motorcycle Skills Day at Castle Combe hosted by Mercury Motorcycle Training on Monday

I have never done anything near a track before, and when I explained to my bike mechanic that I wanted to keep doing new things on a bike to improve, but wasn't tempted by a track day itself ...

Re: Giro D'Italia, who'll be wearing pink in the first grand tour?

I think my edit came just after your post, but absolutely. I didn't see a Bernal digging ridiculously deep today. It looked quite measured, especially how they brought the second group back (then passed).

Ganna is a machine, there's a special on him today on the Cycling Podcast: https ...

Re: Giro D'Italia, who'll be wearing pink in the first grand tour?

Worthwhile giving this another airing I think.

Bernal still not in a bad position, he only lost time really to Yates (not really counting Almeida here based on how far back he is), and it was a small amount at that. I think at worst his upper edge has dropped off a little, but hasn't fallen off a ...

Re: Giro D'Italia, who'll be wearing pink in the first grand tour?

I can't help being a nerd... but I also find tracking time gaps over time a good way of keeping an eye on who's climbing and who's going backwards. Especially for spots lower down the pecking order. Annoyingly even procyclingstats don't show the data like this.

Easy to forget from the pictures that ...

Re: Giro D'Italia, who'll be wearing pink in the first grand tour?

I haven't been here a few days but to answer your previous question weeksy (and answering it before yesterday) I guess it's the old cliche that you have to beat what's on the road with you. And to be fair, there's a few solid names there, plus before this no-one knew if we'd see the Bernal of old ...

Re: Motorbike mags, do you ? don't you ?

I can get a couple free electronically through my library. I don't read every edition but if I'm at a wits end I'll skim through. Sometimes my neighbour drops off a pile too. I find the likes of MCN and Ride the same week after week. Here's a bike we're testing, we rode it a lot, we liked it a lot ...
