Right then, minor question time.

If you look at the pic and in particular the lid, it goes just past 90deg on this pic. That is now about another 15deg further as the hinge at the back is a little on the cheap/weak side of things. The back of the hinge with the weight is moving away from it's housing and either flexing/bending a bit.
So what i need is 'something' to keep the lid closer to 90deg and not letting it extend past that point. There's no current 'fixing' points i can use but i'm happy to drill/rivet something in place.

I think it just needs something like these corner pieces on this table

That'd do the job nicely and stop it going past where we want it.

Longer term i'll likely re-design the whole lot anyway and get a higher quality case to put it all in. This really was designed and bought as a test project and in truth has been brilliant. But it's cheap and cheerful rather than a long term solution.

Yeah i was thinking just a little bit of chain with rivets both ends. It may even be cool to use bicycle chain as it will kinda fit in with the whole ethos of MTBing.

Well made yes, waterproof not so much.

The case i have is OK but you can see it's on the cheap and cheerful side of things. So at some stage it'll get swapped for a better one.

Depends on size really. The box i have is about 450/330/140 and it's about the right size to carry most things in there. I could arguably go bigger and still have some tools not fitted.

Time to revisit this thread as it's winter and i found what i needed/thought wasn't necessarily what ended up being the correct/most used. So over winter i'm going to re-do all of this and see what we can come up with this time.

I've emailed Redbox again to see if they can laser/CNC etc a custom set as i'd like it doing nicely rather than what i've managed between me and the wife.

I've asked them to clarify their terminology a little bit, but it seems to be about £200 assuming i need everything doing in that list.. Which whilst that's a chunk of change, it's not completely ridiculous for what we'd end up with. Whether i'd do that in this particular tool box or buy a better one first, well that's open to discussion with myself today

Tool etching and foam etching are 'additional' services that can be added.

Tool etching adds up to 9 characters on each tool, like a model, part, your name, initials etc.. (not a lot of use to me in truth)
Foam etching can add a description in the foam next to each item, so if i were to use the 4mm, 5mm, 6mm allen keys like above i could have the size etched into the foam... That's possibly of more use to me, but again, i'm not sure how much.

I mostly agree but in the instance of the below, it would arguably be a little easier with say a 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm. But if you've stacked them correctly and know your tools anyway, you know that say the 2nd one along is the 2.5mm

To add to that, sometimes they are at race meetings. I'll be working on a bike on one side of the gazebo and up to my arms in parts/grease and ask my boy or whoever is 'helping' me to pass me a particular tool at a given time lol... So their level of knowledge is unlikely to be as high as mine (or i'd be letting them fix it themselves)

LOL that's when i start losing my shit as time can be a factor. Sometimes we're talking minutes for a job that arguably should take longer and you need things right fucking now It's OK when we're at home and doing stuff but at race meetings, time can be very much of the essence.

In truth, i don't think it's worth the extra to me in this case... but i do like it as an option.

the actual costs were honestly less than i expected, i now just need to work out a plan in terms of tools/layout.
