And that's exactly what they used to be, ugly, well-made, comfy, rather frumpy German sandals and popular with hippy types. Now they're an 'aspirational' fashion brand owned pretty much by luxury goods outfit LVMH (Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy). This made me laugh. But only cos someone was slightly critical of my casual shoes the other week, apparently they looked like shoes that were worn for PE at school (they don't look like anything I wore for PE, but he was at school 20 years later than me!)
