The cbf is up to 21k miles now, which works out at about 13k in 20 months and we've had some proper excitement recently with the world's most boring bike.

A twice daily roll of the dice of will it or won't it start, the battery really didn't like the cold weather so a new one brought back that boring dependability

It's also had a new chain and sprocket set last week because the old chain had a horrible tight spot.

I think it's time is limited here and may be on it's way out the door in the next few months, but I'll need to figure out what to replace it with.

I do quite fancy one, but probably not for my next bike.

If the funds allowed I'd get a zero dsr/x, 100bhp and 220nm (same power, twice the tq of the cbf) but they don't so I'm currently looking at 1090 adv and tiger 1200 type bikes. But we're a few months away from changing so there's a bit of time yet.

That's a straight no, especially if it's slower than the cbf.

I did see one on the road a while back and thought it looked good, but it's not for me .

On paper the multistrada 950 is perfect, but I've got an irrational fear of Italian electrics and their servicing costs.
Oh and salted roads mixed with my lack of cleaning ability.

My brother test rode one of those and really liked it. He wanted a Tracer 9 but didn't get on with the test ride of a new one so tried the BMW not expecting much as the Mags all rate it lower than the Tracer, he found it was the other way around for him. He found the BMW felt more fun.

Looks like I had a similar idea on the blandness front, 15 plate with 15k miles & £4k from premier bikes, my first ever jap 4 too.

The boring bike keeps on being boring and staying every day but the rear end has been feeling a bit crap for a while so I bought a YSS shock to go in there.
This thing was not designed to be able to change the shock easily but it's done and test ride will be later after I've changed the fork springs as well.

Lol at the state of the OEM shock, the rod is corroded and scored too fuck, no wonder it didn't like to squish very much.

I assume it's completely exposed the crap flying off the back wheel?

Even having a hugger doesn't always prevent this: I've seen factory fit huggers with holes cut in them in precisely the right place to allow crud to be thrown directly at the rear shock.

Yep, that's exactly the problem, directly in line with the rear wheel and riding all year around.

I guess I need to find either a flap to attach to the under tray or fruit a hugger.

FWIW my Rocksters have a small flap that hangs down to protect the shock, it works surprisingly well.

I fitted something similar to my Tiger from pyramid plastics, I've had a look and can't seem to find any sort of generic flap that can be glued / riveted on.

R&G shocktube?

I've no idea if they're any good, they probably make the shock over heat quicker or trap moisture inside making them rot quicker... or maybe not?

I've looked at the shock tube but the moisture thing niggles me, I can't imagine overheating ever being a problem on the CBF

Coat the whole thing in Vaseline (or LM grease), then put the shocktube on so you can't see it.
