There's a spelling mistake in the extra text added to the forum header.

I agree with this. I try to never go in there as it pisses me off.IccyV2 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 10:41 amI could but it wouldn't have been true.
Yes they looked down their noses at it without doubt, but because of the shocking behaviour they saw, not because airline pilots are naturally above anyone, even at 40,000ft.
It's like watching clips of drunken idiots outside a pub fighting with bouncers, most people would look down on them because of what they're doing, they might be Chartered Accountants, but that's got nothing to do with it.
Recently I've been so incensed by what's going on in the US at the mo I thought I might go in and have a conversation about it. Opened a thread, read a few comments, and was immediately reminded why I don't bother. It's not exactly highbrow.
I'd hate it if it that kind of neanderthal stuff came into the main forums.
I'm tempted to say leave it to keep it contained, but maybe it's better to ditch it, and then we'll then get to keep people around like Dazzle, who I miss.

It was a surprise when they were telling me, it's a job you need to love rather than doing it to get rich.

I wanted a career swap many years ago and considered getting my comercial pilots license but I took advice beforehand and spoke to some pilots. At the time budget airlines were driving down salaries and the glory days of working for BA were on the way out. There were more than enough ex-military pilots and the work was little more than being a glorified van or bus driver.JackyJoll wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:00 pmSupply and demand. Before that I had been on a night out in Dubai with a couple of pilots and a bunch of UK hostesses, that was fun but just showed how they were normal people with their own issues.
I like how instead of a thread descending into an argument about politics, this started as that and turned into a discussion on 80s bike mags.

And why does what a bunch of Emirates pilots and hangarounds think matter. It’s hardly a balanced opinion of the outside world

About 20 years ago I was doing a fair amount of travelling in the US, and revenue watching an expose of the local airlines where pilots were on about 60K USD a year. When you saw them in terminals in shiny polyester suits, and really dog-eared white pilot shorts, I could believe it …Mussels wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 2:55 pmI wanted a career swap many years ago and considered getting my comercial pilots license but I took advice beforehand and spoke to some pilots. There's a few twats on here who have been posting shite at me. Some as far back as VD.IccyV2 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 1:24 pmThis is a well trodden path, we've been down it many times, if you can't see it then you can't see it.weeksy wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 1:13 pm Let’s just go back a step here.
Moderators are doing this for free and unless people report the threads they are potentially not even looked at.
Very few reports come out way. So not everything gets looked at.
I still don’t actually know what post you keep referring to
I don't even know why I replied to be honest, all I've done now is put my head up and it won't be long before the shots start coming in again, or one of the weirdos googles the username and starts poking into my personal life again....3,2,1....
Most of them are on ignore

I ggogled and concluded you must be part of the Inns of Court and City Yeomanry, aka The Devils Own. Apparently King George III rather disliked lawyers.IccyV2 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 1:24 pmThis is a well trodden path, we've been down it many times, if you can't see it then you can't see it.weeksy wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 1:13 pm Let’s just go back a step here.

Seriously, I can remember the hoo ha back in VD days, and I sincerely hope that no-one ever starts taking stuff IRL again. That really is crossing a line.

Airline pilots! Chartered accountants! Tooley goons!
I thought the moderation is fine.
And I can see the left wing narrative is more compelling.

You'd rather have your left-wing pals in there soothing your angst instead of a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts who are keen enough to do trackdays 3-4 times a month and ride their bikes a lot. And without doubt they're certainly more balanced to judge what is decent motorcycle forum material than you or the posters in the political section of this forum.
Blokes without political axes to constantly grind, who ride motorcycles a lot, scary stuff eh.

As far as I can tell blokes who ride motorcycles have a wide variety of axes they like to grind. Some of them grind the axes on both sides, others favour a single side.IccyV2 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 7:59 pm

That section had potential if it was moderated to maintain a decent political balance.
I put up a thread about inflation in there a good year before it hit and way way before the cost of living crisis appeared. That was very good advice if people had listened and not ruined the thread with spite. I get paid very well to provide consultancy and tell people what's going to happen to the economy in 12-18 months and they keep inviting me back and paying me because I'm usually right, this forum got it for free. There was proper money to be made with the advice I shared back then.
Taipan predicted Trump back in the WH when the odds were very favourable, he could have made you a good few bob.
There could be good stuff to post from some good people, if it was moderated to maintain a good political balance.
Sadly all the people that were blamed as protagonists got banned or left and surprise surprise it's still the same absolute mess.
So clearly bans were given to the wrong people and the wrong people were forced off the forum, or left through frustration, and the mess carried on.
Done differently it would have all been sorted now.
