That's nice but I have a Timex Expedition that looks similar and was about 50 quid.
Tudor do make nice watches though and far better value than Rolex.

There's a similar Hamilton Khaki I've been looking at which is less than a grand, but not quite as nice.v8-powered wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 9:10 pm That's nice but I have a Timex Expedition that looks similar and was about 50 quid.

I've got a Sekonda I bought on a Ferry to France for £30 which is actually not that different, but the battery in it is flat

My kettle has broken! Its a Eco Drive and google tell me to sunbathe it, which I am, in the hope it'll start working again. I never put it in the drawer and only leave it on the side in daylight. Anyone else had this with an Eco Drive?

No, I just wake it up once in a while and top it up. Had it for about 14 years. No problems thus far. Hope you're successful.Taipan wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 11:36 am My kettle has broken! My Eco Drive lives on a shelf in my office, over the winter months it doesn't get enough sun to keep it ticking, but it's fine come spring / summer

Booked a lunch up in The Smoke for next month. I'm going to pop into the Mr. Jones showroom whilst I'm up there:
https://mrjoneswatches.com/pages/mr-jon ... ship-store
I actually quite like some of their watches. A quirky antidote to the bullshit of overpriced and identical watches you see everywhere. Not everyones taste, granted. Mrs. G.'s comment: they look like children's watches.
My mate wants to pop into the new Christopher Ward showroom too. Might as well, if we're passing:
https://www.christopherward.com/showroo ... RugeHJLa4M
They do some reasonable pieces. I do like their jump hour watches: https://www.christopherward.com/watches ... E0-MT.html

I have to agree with Mrs G. Are you exhibiting any other symptoms of regressing to childhood?gremlin wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 9:06 am Booked a lunch up in The Smoke for next month. I'm going to pop into the Mr. Jones showroom whilst I'm up there:

According to the manual, you should never let the battery get to zero. I think you've been lucky. Keep up the vitaminsTaipan wrote: Tue Feb 17, 2026 11:08 amYay, fully working again! Re: The Official Watch Thread.
Came across a measurement in "lignes" today. WTF is that was my first thought.
Turned out it is an archaic French measurement of length that pre-dates the metric system, and is still used in Swiss watchmaking. It is 2.256 mm should you need to know that.

A ligne (pronounced "leen-yuh", abbreviated L or ‴) is a traditional unit of length used in watchmaking,, (measuring roughly 2.26 mm, 1 ligne + 2.2558mm). It stems from the old French pied (foot) system, where 12 lines equal 1 French inch, and 12 inches equal 1 foot. It is used to measure watch movements. .
Pay up, and I am not accepting that kid's porridge shit. Real groats, or perhaps hacksilver equivalent.
