Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?

I had a Mazda 6 2.2 as a company car, circa 2017. Went back after 2 years then all of a sudden disappeared from the MOT system, so assume written off or engine boom!Saga Lout wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 5:54 pmDon't be silly. At the risk of tempting fate: I've had a 2019 Mazda 6 estate for the last 3 years. It's been as reliable as a [insert example of reliable thing here].![]()

Seriously considering a Toyota BZ4X. Could be a good replacement for the seven seat Prius, now I no longer need seven seats.
Used ones look good value and I image the running costs are low.

Cars are insane in that though. It makes me laugh that i am frowning on selling a MTB frame for £1000 less than i paid for it, but people are OK losing £20k on a car after a year.v8-powered wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:17 amLovely but huge depreciation!Docca wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:04 am I’m considering this as my next car: https://www.carwow.co.uk/porsche/taycan

I’ve lost a couple of mates in recent times and I’m of the view that life has a huge depreciation so I’m going in for the best ride possible.

Yup, life's too short to be a greeny, so I'm going back to fire spitting ice engines with pops n bangs, as is befitting of a man over 60!
Driving gloves and polyester trousers may or may not follow...

Fair play. A neighbour has a Taycan - it's a lovely car but surprisingly big to park! His was an offset against his corporation tax bill, so wasn't too worried about the depreciation hit, but must still smart a bit!Docca wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 10:12 amAbsolutely agree.v8-powered wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:17 amLovely but huge depreciation!Docca wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:04 am I’m considering this as my next car: https://www.carwow.co.uk/porsche/taycan

It's a big pile of bills before you go back to a Tesla.

A mate in S'ton had a Taycan, he was less than impressed as it spent more time with Porsche than in his garage at home!! But hopefully they've cleared up the gremlinsDocca wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 9:04 am I’m considering this as my next car: https://www.carwow.co.uk/porsche/taycan

The only journeys you'll be making in a Jag are to and from the workshop.
