Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Took advantage of the Veteran's Day deals at El Casa Cheapo yesterday on Dewalt stuff.
Picked up:
6Ah 20V battery, 4Ah 20V battery, charger & a tool bag for the price of just the 6Ah 20V battery..... & they gave me a free 20V SDS Plus drill.
So all told, about $600 worth of tools for $200. Bargain.
Last time I did this I picked up a 20V drill, 20V impact, charger, 2x 2Ah 20V batteries & tool bag for $99 & they gave me a free 20V buzzy tool (oscillating doodad).
I need to pick up the adapter spod that allows you to use the 20V batteries on the older 18V tools.

Army surplus for cheap Gore Tex
Just bought an RAF, plain blue Gore Tex, X-short rain coat, no hood £33 and a combat jacket "Gore Tex" inner liner for £17. For the liner the Gore Tex is in quotes so I'm guessing that it's not - normal retailers wouldn't get away with that but for £17 I'm willing to take a chance.

One of the things 'on the High Street' that I miss are the old 'Army Stores' that used to be quite common. When I lived in that London I got loads of kit from the much missed Laurence Corner (Drummond Street/Hampstead Road). It closed after 57 years but used to have military kit and all sorts, from Italian police bike jackets to military issue aviator sunglasses (they had the wire loop ear fitting so they didn't fall off if you were upside downTrinity765 wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 7:23 am Army surplus for cheap Gore Tex![]()

Guessing, though, with general reduction in forces there's less surplus?

Surplus? Isn't the MoD Procurement Executive mission statement 'To Ensure Oversupply'.Horse wrote: Fri Nov 11, 2022 7:56 am https://www.silvermans.co.uk/

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
Tickets to see James at the Albert Hall next year for their 40th year tour. Only took an hour using both a laptop and my phone and I didn't get the best seats, but hey, I'm in with a 'plus one'.
I suspect Mrs. G will come under sufferance but would happily give up her seat for this middle-age musical-fest if one of my mates wants to come.

If they're new, there's no risk of a dog egg on the bottom of the shoes, so it's all good.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
We had that thing about shoes (very much including new ones) on the table at home.
Just looked it up. It signifies the owner is dead.
(From the ritual of putting a dead miner's shoes on the table apparently).
