What about your State Pension. ?
That added would take you over your Personal Allowance and would start to pay tax on the PP side. ISA and Gambling winnings are not taxable.

Says me who knows didley squit, but will watch this with interest as I'm in the same boat.

Everyone’s individual circumstances can be different, but assuming no other source of taxable income then no, they won’t be subject to income tax.

Not old enough to get state pension, 58 soon. Looking at ways to retire early without paying tax. So it's 12500 from pension, then any non taxables me thinks. So it's bang money into these accounts now to draw on later and any cash in hand work.

In my old job they always said we can't advise as everybody's different. I always thought we employee's were all the same, we all want the best and the best was best for everyone.

Pension has gone slightly insane in the last week, i'm assuming something to do with the US changes, but it's jumped by a chunk of change anyway.

I've set up a discussion with Pension Wise in a week or so, they're a Gov created thing to give advice on pensions. I just want to clear up a few things really. But i'm not sure any of this is going to change my plans when 55 arrives.

Had an annual statement for one pot. Dropped about £5k (roughly about 8%) over the year.

Oh wow... i'd say mine is up by 14%+ on the year. Maybe more than that. Obviously some of that is my/work contributions, but even in the last weeks it's gone up by £14,000

My all-equities ISA rose 12.88% over calendar year 2024.

Up 19.41% over the 12 months to today.

Of course, some other year the tables will be turned and it will be equities down, bonds up.

I was quite pleased with the Pensionwise service when I used it.

Truss still owes me the equivalent of a nice car after what she did to my 'safe' pension funds. (Not as nice as when she and her other financial wizard first crashed the markets though).

Everything else has done quite nicely over 2024. Fortunately had some ISA funds in US markets and still had some in tech funds. Overall, happy-ish.

My NVIDIA shares are still leading the charge, up 486% so far.

I'm sure they'll crash eventually

If i had the spare cash a year ago they were a complete no-brainer and i'd have been with you... but sadly that's outside of my remit.

I bought mine in 2021. Saw an article about the new chip tech they were about to launch and took a punt.

It occurs to me that I don’t even know what companies I’ve got shares in.

Nvidia? With the current crypto boost there's probably still some life in 'em but much of it is probably factored in now. I'd be tempted to take some profit now. Not sell all of them, but bank some gains.

Question then is what do you do with the winnings?

Some talk of this recently. Trump is very much pushing the domestic production of semiconductors, notably in Arizona and Texas. Not sure if this will dilute Nvidia's worth, but certainly there'll be a ramp up of production State-side.

(The cynics among us may suggest America's support of Taiwan was a direct correlation of its need for semiconductors, the vast majority made there. If the US becomes largely self-sufficient, it may well be that America loses its appetite for supporting them so robustly. Just sayin'...)

Yebbut...into what? Companies in the 'defence' industry, 'safe' havens for turbulent times, gold, USA, Far East, crypto, pharma......???
