The one I linked to runs fine with a Makita 18V battery, and with a no brand 18V battery. Some makes use the higher voltage as proof it's bigger and better, the numbers of cells in the battery is the same. Also IME the motors in the tools will run on varying voltages quite happily. Think of lead acid batteries as fitted to cars and bikes, sold as 12V but when fully charged are over 13V. Stick a voltmeter across you battery terminals when it's fully charged and see what you get.

Two 5 gallon fuel cans.. with *proper* nozzles (ie, a piece of plastic hose) instead of the incredibly moronic design mandated by Califailure which was intended to prevent pollution from accidental spills.. but in reality ensures 3 of the 5 gallons ends up on the ground (I kid you not).
A bit of subterfuge is at hand...
The ones sold in Califailure these days also have a different thread pitch so you can't fit the hose from the older, efficient cans.

Metabo 6gal(US)/200psi pancake compressor for using nailguns etc. Oddly enough on the shelf right next to it at the store was a Metabo 4.5Gal twin-tank compressor rated at 150psi for exactly the same price...
I also bought a hangy fuel tank doodad to run the ZX & ZRX when the gas tanks are off, but that is also illegal in Califailure so some more subterfuge took place...

They're great things for touring on a bike, light and multipurpose. You can pad around your room/tent in them, go for a paddle or, if you must, wander around in public in them.
Doesn't matter if they get wet, just wipe dry.
Wonder what happened to Editor and his Basset hounds?

As much as it pains me to admit it, I’ve got some just for touring, I clip them to the top of a pannier so handy when I need them. They are white. Sorry.

De-Walts 18 volt UK spec batteries are marked up as 20 volt Max in the US.
Same batteries but Merkin's just like bigger numbers innit.
To be fair, they also changed from push in batteries to slide on at the same time so the change meant less Merkins got confuddled.
Seems they either gave us a bit more credit for brains, or maybe just thought we'd be less likely to get lagal about the change. Could go either way I guess.
I do know that my Hitachi batteries show more than 18 volts when fully cbarged cos I chexked em with a multimeter, can't remember exaxtly what the numbers were but think it was 20 or 21 volts.

Well leccy motors (with speed controllers) generally work by varying the voltage going in to them one way or another. That's how you make them run faster/slower etc. It's only really when they (or the power electronics) melt or similar that you know you've gone too high! So i suppose the drills are actually petty tolerant to varying voltage.
I seem to remember a YouTube channel where a guy deliberately over loads all kinds of motors. He got a washing machine drive up to summit daft like 20,000rpm.
