I used 5 cans of 'de-icer' on the windscreen this morning. It took forever + a lot of scraping too.
You imagine you're getting a load of de-icer in those big cans, but they run out in no time and they are rubbish at melting ice.

What you need is a heated windscreen and a away of starting it from the comfort of your warm abode

I just used to chuck on lukewarm water.

Probably would have been loads faster.

Those cans of stuff seem a bit pants.
Autoglym ftw (but at an eye-watering price). I just went onto Amazon (

) to get some quickly. £9+
They had an offer of Deicer and Screenwash for £11ish. 'No-brainer' thinks I, I use their screenwash anyway...
....Delivery 1 to 2
months. (Probably to clear stock after the icy screen season has finished).

I bought a 12 pack of Prestone de-icer from Costco, it wasn't crazy money and it works a treat on the wife's car (I've got a heated screen I can start from an app on my phone).
EDIT:
This stuff...

I've got 2 Fords here. Can't quite start from App, but start and go inside for coffee

I start my Ovlov from the app while making the wife a cup of tea, if the temp is under 10c it fires up the heated seats, windscreen and steering wheel. It's lovely and toasty when I get in it.

Not used canned de-icer for years in this house.
A windscreen cover costs about the same as a cup of coffee and takes seconds to remove in the morning.

That was my absolute favourite thing about the Ford Focus I had!! Now I can't scrape a windscreen, I have to start the car and leave it running like an old person!

I have ordered one of those - currently have a bit of plastic that did the job on the hire car!! But where I park at the depot, and the hours I work, means that I do need something half decent!

If we're doing smug, I can beat that

Have an insulated cover that does the windscreen and side windows for the Moho. Electrically heated mirrors, auxiliary water heater to speed engine warm up.
Takes longer the roll the bloody thing up than it does to fit/remove it!

Quatre chiffres
Indeed. TBF, I expected that, just not quite how high the four figures!!
Couple more agents to try but I don't expect much to change

It's manageable monthly, just more than I hoped!

Car has heated mirrors, but I put small plastic bags over them.
Also, if it's going to be ice rather than frost or snow, small wedges of cardboard under the wiper blades.
One other thing: retire; have a lay-in, listen to everyone else scraping their cars

Same. One of the main reasons I keep a Focus for commuting!

My cover comes with mirrors covers already.
Meh, either way I only have to commute once a week so it's no real hardship

My commute involved wheeling the bike out of the garage, riding 40 miles to work, 40 miles home, then putting the bike away for the next day. Never mind defrosting a windscreen, clearing salt spray from a visor on the morotway is much more challenging. It's even harder when the bit of wet sponge you keep in a half a tennis ball zip tied to the bars has frozen solid.

Found one of my old Bell Moto 7s (in my profile photo either over there <- or over there ->).
Excitedly tried it on, wish I hadn't. Time may not have been kind but also stuff is generally better these days.
My ears hurt.
