Someone started the thread on FB asking "what dead celebrity would you bring back?". Loads of replies, all listing the usual people.
I suggested Jimmy Saville...

Apparently Biden is giving the eulogy... He'll probably say Carter invited him to be there & then ask him to stand up...

Millionaire land owner might be a more accurate description. I doubt he drove a tractor much.petrolpete wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 10:42 pmJust realised he was also a former peanut farmer.Nobby wrote: Sun Dec 29, 2024 9:50 pm Ex POTUS Peanut Farmer.

He was still tottering about with a hammer in his hand working on Habitat for Humanity homes well into his 90s. I can't remember much about him as a president but in my mind he deserves respect for that.Cousin Jack wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 10:11 amMillionaire land owner might be a more accurate description. "The one-term president — who died Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia — worked alongside 103,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate and repair 4,331 homes with Habitat for Humanity for more than 35 years. Often, Carter and his late wife, former first lady Rosalynn Carter, volunteered together.
The couple first participated in a Habitat for Humanity project in 1984 in New York City. Carter discovered the organization while on a run. He recalled that he passed by a building and thought, “Rosalynn and I should come up and give them a hand.”

He didn't exactly inherit his millions (if indeed he had them).
See the 'Farming' section.

Probably the last President that the term 'statesman' applied to.
Served his time in the military too....
His time in office probably fits the MacMillan quote of 'events dear boy' when asked what blows governments off course. He got the whole bagful!

Tony Slattery just died of a heart attack, aged 65. I remember him from the improv shows back in the day as being a very funny man indeed.

He was probably the most talented of the batch that came out of Cambridge at that time. Also, the most 'troubled' - when you read his back-story or saw the Horizon programme about him it's not hard to see why.dern wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 4:04 pm Tony Slattery just died of a heart attack, aged 65. Shame he didn't get to do more than he did. Very clever funny and a pretty decent actor too.

Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
David Lynch just passed away. Made some of my favourite films and probably my all time favourite tv series. Weird and wonderful man.
