We (there are eight of us on the course) are collectively making one 3m x 3m 'garden room'.
He sells them after the course for the price of the timber apparently (at some point he said the timber we're using was about £2300, so presumably that's how much he sells them for), which would make sense, given they are going to have some areas of 'character' given our lack of experience

Anyway, today we got to play with many power tools - morticers and the like
And made corner 'jowl' posts, amongst other things.

They do a 3-part timber framed building course at the Weald and Downland Living museum. Looks reasonable value too. But I was a bit surprised that the course mentions power tools and that they don't insist that it's done like they did in the 16-1700s! (Maybe 4 days wouldn't be enough with a hand chisel and manual drill )

This is a five-dayer. Two days on hand tools, then power tools got introduced. Now we're using a combination depending on the task. The building is nearly up

Annnddd we're done! (We don't put the purlins and rafters on, as it gets dismantled again!)

Such a good course - highly recommended

Had a mobile mechanic round to sort the ABS light and lack of temperature gauge on my camper. ABS light was a speed sensor as expected and thats now sorted, but sadly, a new temp sensor didn't fix the temp gauge. Ho hum. Still at least i can take it for an MOT test now.

Went out to sit in the sun for a bit early. The other English joined me for a bit so we enjoyed the sun till her new hip told her she needed to go inside (fitted with my spazzy knee starting to request I go in too!!)

So, this afternoon is mostly cross stitch

Yesterday we had a few people over. My daugher brought a bottle of chicken wine (La Vieille Ferme) and asked me if I had any jalapenos? I said a jar of red slices, yes. She put a small piece of jalapeño in the wine! apparently, its a thing..

On Thursday I managed to get a piece of microfibres rag in the chain as I as leaving for home (must have ridden over it) which then jammed against the front sprocket stopping all forward progress.
I called the nice man from AA who got the sprocket off got it out and I went home.
This is a very abridged version of what happened but the AA chap was pretty good.
Bizarre thing to happen.

Bizarre things do happen. Met up with Bonners/Simbon somewhere along the Snake Pass route back in VD days. We headed off to the Lakes. Somewhere on the 'avoid Manchester' route a 5ft length of polythene wrap blew across the road on a kamikaze mission to take him out. Promptly got involved with his bike and wrapped itself firmly into his chain/rear cog bringing a rapid end to forward progress. He stayed upright but it took us the best part of an hour stuck at the side of a busy ring-road to cut, rip and generally piggle the stuff out of the drive train.

(I gave my shaft drive an appreciative pat when we set off. ).

Yes ….really strange - I thought the chain had jumped off at one point and jammed between the sprocket and the engine-casing .

It was an anti-hooligan,anti-speeding safety device,which is employed by those who know what's best for us. Usually targeting bad people with more than 6 points on their licence.

Spent some time in the sun stripping the Tenere to find the cause of the headlight full beam coming on when doing a U-turn.





Got the tank and plastics off only to notice the left hand switchgear had rotated slightly causing the flash button to get pushed in when pulling the clutch lever in………I’m getting old

Not today, but yesterday. Today was mostly spent recovering...

We spend a fair bit of money with Dell at work. On Friday our account manager offered me a pair of tickets to the FA cup semi final. Thinking it would be a decent seat and some buffet food I said yes. Turned out to be a corporate box with a three course meal, cheese board at half time and a free bar up until an hour after final whistle. Noel and Liam were in the box next door...

Any prawn sandwiches on offer?

This morning, when I came down to make a coffee, I noticed the mutt wasn't out of her chair in the hallway and waiting at the back door to run out into the garden to proclaim to the other neighbourhood dogs that she was up and on patrol. Minor thing, but I've noticed lately that she ain't the young, lively mutt she used to be. Fair play, as she's 11 this year and has earned a lay in, but I can also see that when she does that dog stretch, you can almost hear her groan with the effort. Grey hairs are now very apparent.
Kind of hit home this morning that she's now an old dog and it made me think of her mortality and that eventually, but hopefully not too soon, we'll have to say goodbye.

She's still a fucking twat, though.

Today I arrived home from a Weekend in Palma, Mallorca, celebrating my sisters 60th birthday. Palma is expensive, think London prices then add a bit, the place exists solely to take money from tourists. It was nice to catch up with my sister, I won't be heading back to Mallorca again.

Appt finished early and wanted to get home for the puppy.

Had a quieter day today. Got the bike out and filled it up (cry). Then off to the tooth mechanic for a check-up, all fine, so no removals or patching required. Out to the local community hospital to get hearing aid batteries, as down to three before the great silence descends. Collect 4 packs of those. Then over to book the bike in for an MOT at the local place, 11th May at 10am will see the great Triumph legal for another year.

Back home for the lunch duties, feed child, feed myself, drink coffee. Then back on the bike for a meeting with a colleague to hear his opinion on something I am considering (being a Rural Dean) and then home enjoying the soft burble of the bike.

Home to see the delivery had been left at the door as expected. A new window regulator the for the Skoda, hopefully this one fits/works/goes in smoothly. It is a horrid job to do.

Did a survey as requested on the necessities for ordination training and how that can be improved. Then responded to an email on disability access for clergy and the recent Archbishops Council I was part of regarding this. Interesting topics and much thought required on both.

Then cook dinner for the wife and son as both will be hungry when they get home. That was a success and much enjoyed. Had a nice almond slice as a treat. Have to go out and do a small shop for essentials. Home to relax and enjoy a single malt later on if the mood strikes. If not, a glass of Calvados may suffice.

Had a look at ferry costs hull..Rotterdam return. Motorbike ....2 people. £975.
