I read Children of Time, it was ok, but I've been in no rush to read any of his other stuff.

The plot summary looks interesting. Uplifted spiders.

Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky, rip roaring space opera. Proper page turner for me.

I keep seeing books by AT but haven't read any. Is Shards of Earth the best place to start?

I've just bought Stuart Little in paperback and will probably buy Stig of the Dump too!

I loved Stig of the Dump when I was a kid, the TV series was equally as good.

A couple of stand out books I also remember from that time was Roddy the Road Man series and the Phantom Tollbooth.

The Blazing World - Jonathon Healey
A history of revolution in the 17th century.

Cheers will look out for that, one of the most interesting periods of our history and schools still teach the fucking dull Tudors instead. One of my favourite Uni courses by far.

There is quite a lot on that era, I've also been tipped the wink to The Restless Republic - Anna Keay, but I haven't read it or bought it yet.

Yeah I've read a few a while back but nothing in recent years and seems there are some new books out so will stick them on my (very long) list.

I've sort of devoured all the Mick Herron, Slow Horses/Slough House books and his Oxford/Zoe Boehm books recently. Quite enjoyed them in a 'suspend disbelief/gosh what a lot of coincidences' way.

(The last of the Zoe Boehm books was a nostalgia trip around Newcastle for me - there's a derelict cinema in it and I guessed, correctly, that it was the old Jesmond Picture House. Now looks like it's new apartments with a Tesco Metro on the ground floor ).

I'd quite like to see the tv series of Slow Horses but it's stashed away on AppleTV and they seem reluctant to put it out on DVD.

Cheers Mick. Don't have Sky so I'll wait, it'll appear on DVD or Prime sooner or later. I think that the TV series has filtered out some of the 'Oh, yeah, like that'd happen IRL' stuff that's in the books. Pretty cool though that Gary Oldman got to play both Smiley and Jackson Lamb...possibly the two best spooks ever.

I've just started book 7.

I think the send up of current politicians in the books is bloody brilliant.

Once they've had their initial run on the original platform they like to monetise the productions as far as possible. If there's a non-AppleTV market out there I'm sure they'll look to exploit it.

The DVD market isn't dead yet. (The thing I miss with streaming is the 'extras' like 'the making of' etc. Sometimes they're the best bits!)

Ultimately of course you're right, but I'm not sure that's ever happened yet with the 'original' content produced by Netflix/Amazon/Apple as they're in the early stages of building their platforms. It'll be a while yet until any of them admit defeat and sell off their content I imagine.

I read 530 pages on The witching hour by Anne Rice, the renowned novelist who penned what became Interview with a Vampire. I still don't know what it was all about but 550/1180 was enough to know I wasn't feeling it
