I was going to say that he's now 'The Quiet American' in a Grahame Greene type pun...

...but he's Canadian.

Dang! :D

I would have guessed he died years ago.

Makes me wonder what other famous people are still alive.

Inevitable outcome and stereotypical of all politicians by dragging it out needlessly rather than maintain an ounce of decorum by apologising and resigning at the first whiff of impropriety…

To be fair - if they did that, then none of them would make it past polling...

Perhaps that should be introduced as an acid test of being fit and proper for the role… :D

Rest easy man.

I liked them too, although they never seemed 'hip' they were one of those bands with their own distinctive sound. Interesting beginnings - basically sponsored by a rich Dutch chap.

Another band from Swindon - that makes 2! :D

(XTC are the other one that I know).

Me too, but I prefer the earlier stuff even more.

Literally just noticed that they're the last thing I played on the weekend!

:)

It's a Pro-Ject Debut 2. You can't really see in that photo, but it's dark green to match the walls :)

In fairness, I do stream too, via a Sonos box to an Audiolab amp, but I have the deck (via a phono pre-amp and then into the same Sonos/Audiolab route).

The deck is stupid for all the obvious reasons, when I mainly buy albums I already have on CD, let alone via streaming, but it's all about the occasion, man!

It's all about the sound too, man! None of that nasty compression malarkey. (You need to spend a barrow-load of money to get close with a decently produced CD and CD player and streaming is waaaaay off - even Tidal).

TBH, when I could hear better I did the comparison of streamed vs CD vs Vinyl on my system. I still think CD - and you don’t have to tune it over every 20 mins.
Still have a Technics deck … but use it rarely (as I have to get up every 20 mins). Oddly I do buy vinyls every now and then - sort of for posterity

PS I hated Supertramp. Everything wrong with AOR !

CDs with a good CD player (I was amazed by the difference a top end CD player was over a cheap one* - up until then I'd thought digital meant it was like a hard drive - it just read the disk and that as that) are probably better than most record deck/tone arm/cartridge combinations. What I found when was replacing my vinyl was that some CDs are horribly compressed and will never equal the vinyl. This was very apparent on several old records that weren't originally available on CD and they'd issued one much later. I don't know what technology they used to do the transcription but I suspect they'd lost the master tapes on a lot of them.

* chap in the hi-fi shop set up the listening room with a range of CD players. I just said 'take my money!' left with a new one and dumped my old one. I bought an even better one a few years later. (20+ years on I still have it).
