I've got a '14 MT09 and it's mental. The engine is bonkers. Suspension is sub par compared to say the trumpet 900 but it's a proper tool.

Other than the first and second services which Suzuki did, I've done all my own. I have the receipts for the oil/filters etc but that's all. Not unusual I'd have thought. Personally though I'd want some form of proof of the valve check.
No idea on MT07 Vs 09. I reckon you'd need to try both. Depends what you are looking for. I had a 690 Duke as an only bike for 6 years including weekends away etc and it was great. Equally the GSXS is great too, but in a different way. Less playful/fun in a way but more WAAAAHHHHH when that litre engine gets a shift on. Both (07/09) are budget bikes, but I'd imagine the 07 is more budget. If you are trying an MT09 personally I'd also try a GSXS and or CB1000R/Z900 and Z1000, I was set on buying an MT or XSR900 until I rode the Suzuki and I much preferred it, mainly handling wise. The MT09 handled...odd. The Suzuki handled like a sportsbike with flat bars from the instant I got on it the MT09 wasn't getting a look in. But that could be a personal thing.
EDIT: And GSXS750. Several European mags rated that better handling than the MT09 (previous gens to current which I presume will be your budget) Although the Yam had a more powerful motor.
Thanx. I do need to try the MT09 if only to see if my arm can handle it! I am a total brat and a mad bike is way more me, whilst I did love the little MT07, it just feels a bit safe and sensible - but I probably need that
Interesting that the Suzuki handled like a sports bike. - but also, I've had a couple of bikes with apparently poor handling, but I've loved them both - I must be weird as well as a brat!!!
TBF, if the 690 had been something I liked, that would be bloody perfect for me. But I hated every second of the test ride and still don't understand why !! Loved the 390, but the big bro - rubbish for me!!!

I still can't quite get my head around this. What was it about the 690 you hated? I was sold on my Duke 690 after the first few yards, and still think it's a brillant bike.

I can't remember exactly. I was 100% gutted as I totally wanted to buy one. But I just hated it. From riding it out of Fowlers for the test right up till I rode it back in !! It was really really weird cos teh 390 was perfect, I just wanted a bigger version but it wasn't to be
- I need to remember the superduke I rode as that was great, but I do think it would have hurt my back in the end because the only way to get my arm comfy was to lean forward, so it probably wouldn't work out

I still look for them over here! Had the option to buy one in the uk for a really good price (and fully tricked and refurbed) but there was no way I could get it registered here
But I do still look for them just in case I see one that looks 'not too abused' for a sensible price, I will grab it !!!

The MT09 engine is a good un. I really liked Weeksy's XSR when I rode that. Oddly I liked XSR and Tracer, but not the MT I rode. Could of been that particular bike maybe, but it put me off.

If you didn't get on with the 690 Duke, you should try a XT660X, if you haven't already?

Haven't really tried anything much, but now I'm trying to remember what it was my mate had that I borrowed years ago!! In my head it was an XT but cos Weeksy says it's too high, maybe not!! LOL
I do REALLY want an MT10 but can't afford that for now, just not sure I will stay happy with the 07 for long enough, so I will test the 09 and see if it's ok with the arm

IMO you can't want either the MT07 or MT09, that's like some of Pietins decisions.
They're SOOOOO different in every way that it doesn't make sense to have a choice between them.
Based upon your health stuff, MT07 all day every day.

But I suppose that's is the problem. The right choice is probably the MT07 - but I don't think it's a bike I would want as the only one. If I can handle the 09 with the spazzy arm, then that one I think I could do everything with!!
But I guess this comment from you is why I posted, I needed someone to point that out so I realise I'm fighting heart and head! Although if I can't manage the 09 with the spazzed arm, then I'll just have to live with the 07 (not sure if that's

The MT-07 has a beaut of an engine! Proper grunty little thing. I never felt confident with the front end for some reason, but the bike was a hoot to ride overall. Deffo try one, I cant imagine you'd not like it?

Why would your arm be OK with the 07 but not the 09? Acceleration type thing holding on?

07 is 11kg lighter and 22mm lower seat height along with a closer reach and forward pegs to assist leg position.
The 09 is undoubtedly a better package imo, even just the triple noise and grunt. But the 07 is a much much easier bike to ride
