Re: Honda mini bikes.
That's got me thinking all sorts of silly thoughts....
I wonder how much I'd need as a backhander for the SVA inspector....

Top bombing!
I'm more of a Grom lad myself, having had a first generation one some ten years ago, but I see the monkey's appeal.
Warning: it's very easy to throw money at them. Don't be shy to do that, just accept from the get-go that even if you do a lot (cbr300 motor mount kits available) it'll still be a small/slow bike. The main thing a Grom benefits from is improving the suspension as the forks are very very soft from factory. Ohlins does a drop-in springs and valves kit. I guess the monkey is the same.

Re: Honda mini bikes.
Picking up the monkey tomorrow. Just got off phone with insurer. Currently have 3 bikes so swapping out Benelli for monkey. Current insurer won't cover monkey so needing new quote for all 3. Last October 3 bikes was £245. Today with monkey instead of Benelli £406 for 12 months. Suppose they're easy to pinch when out and about.
I did get back £159, so today I've paid £246, still a big jump. It's a poxy little 125 ffs. £26 tax a year thank god. Doesn't use petrol much. Let the fun begin.
Pissing down the next few days, cosmic.

If you'd got one of these you would even need the extractor fan!

Re: Honda mini bikes.
Well, the monkey is home. Pissed down all the way there and back pretty much. Chester about 30 odd miles.
It's slow as expected but so light and nimble, making for a summer of fun.
It soon gets through the gears then once in 5th thats it, it just sits there, I got 59 down hill but probably not much more than 50 will be realistic. They reckon they're better with a few hundred miles on so we will see.
Cleanest pic of It's life outside shop, then a quick stop at Ellesmere and home.

Re: Honda mini bikes.
Mods have started. To make it look even cooler ( if that's possible
) tail tidy on and it's a plug n play job, just waiting for illegal plate now.
Also some cheapo mirror extenders coz stock set up isn't quite wide enough, popular mod with us monkey boys.
.
Next is chrome rack, not quite sure why yet, oh and some airbox decals and I think that's about it, exciting time's indeed.

Re: Honda mini bikes.
I think a bit more engine would be nice, maybe 15/18 bhp instead of 9.2. However, I'm not touching exhaust/air filter, etc it's a slow bike for the quiet lanes and i don't want too much noise. They reckon they run better once broken in, maybe nudging 60 on the flat, we will see.
Honda reckon they do 180 mpg but my research tells me nearer 130 which ain't bad. I suppose they're on full throttle most of the time. 5.6 L tank.
Just put a little rack on it, suits I reckon. Will come in handy for water bottle etc or even a night away somewhere and it's another grabbing point.
Few more bits n pieces to come this week, including a clock, dodgy plate, airbox decals, I'll see how that looks, might not be on long. Maybe some handgaurds, not bothering with heated grips.

Re: Honda mini bikes.
I would love one of these but they are too small for me, same as a grom.
I ride a van van 125 and with me on it its comfortable at 40, pushing it at 45.
I bought an old CG 125 and they are much smaller than my van van and it was so much fun to ride.
I think people that only want the performance of a hi powered bike miss out on the fun and enjoyment of smaller slow ones.

Re: Honda mini bikes.
I agree, there's plenty of fun to be had on a small, light bike, I'd also say bigger, faster bikes also have their place. That's why one bike is never enough.
