Haven't lost $$ on any Kaw in 35 years... & sold some for rikkydikkylous money.

The covid bubble burst & any bugger who bought a Z1 or H2 a couple of years ago got a wake up call at Mecum Vegas a couple of weeks go.

Hmm interesting subject, a few years ago YPVS 350s were selling for £9K, now they're more like £6-7K, same goes for 350LCs, 250s are about £2K less than the 350s, feck knows why, there's not much difference between them and the 250 is a nicer bike to ride. Again early GSXRs seem to have dropped by about £2K, but FZ750s are still worthless, probably because loads of them have survived due to a combination of the kind of people who owned them and the engines last forever. I doubt if my Kawasaki is would sell for how much money I've put into it, but that doesn't really matter as I get pleasure from owning it.
But in non nostalgia bike values, I've probably lost £3K on my 2020 CB1000R since I bought it 2.5 years ago, mostly because Honda priced the Hornet 1000 very low and instantly the value of CB1000Rs dropped, but also because I have the temerity to actually ride it, it's considered high mileage at 18000 miles, that's 3000 miles a year, which in my opinion is low mileage.
But in non nostalgia bike values, I've probably lost £3K on my 2020 CB1000R since I bought it 2.5 years ago, mostly because Honda priced the Hornet 1000 very low and instantly the value of CB1000Rs dropped, but also because I have the temerity to actually ride it, it's considered high mileage at 18000 miles, that's 3000 miles a year, which in my opinion is low mileage.

Picked up a 12,000 mile stock '75 Z1-B that was lein sold to a local dealer. Paid $600, Threw new battery & tires at it. I looked at R1s.... remember how they were the next big player... You can still get a decent early one for £5000. TBH if you look at the underseat 5VYs, they're actually great value for what they are at £5000 with lowish miles and being that era of Japanese really hold their age/condition really really well. A couple i looked at yesterday were immaculate with 20k on the clocks.
It seems to be an absolutely dream time to get on the bikes you wanted 20 years ago but couldn't afford at the time.

It took me ages to find this....about a year ago I was messing about in the garage and I accidentally took a photo on my phone, I must do it ten times a day, but later when I looked at the photo I realised that there was a massive amount of nostalgia just in that one photo.
There is a 350LC, a spoiler off a Porsche Turbo, an exhaust off another 80's Porsche, a lathe (that has a nostalgic tale to it), old army uniform hanging on the wall that's probably rotted now, my old fuel container from racing, and loads more stuff that all has a story to it.
But I suppose for this thread it's the LC.
The only other bike I could see myself buying now is perhaps an RC30, just to look at, it was a schoolboy poster bike.

I'd have been far better off buying the 20yo Cagiva Raptor 650 for £1500 than getting back into 40yo Morini 500s territory but I'm enjoying the challenge of getting it back in one piece & as I'd want it, if it rides like a piece of shit I'll get shot of it.

We went through a period maybe 10 years where we had the magical combination of old gits in there 50/60s with money combined with a period where chancers could make a living buying and selling the things these people wanted. Bikes, guitars, watches all kinds of things.
Thank heaven that bubble seems to have burst, whether it's the taxman catching up with the eBay cowboy or the old gits just getting too old. I'm not really seeing the same feeding frenzy on 90s bikes.
I just like the bikes, bugger the 'investment' potential so I'm quite happy with this.

I bought a used Z1A in 1976 for almost £1k,spent thousands 'doing it up' in 1979 and sold it 4 years later for £750.

Rarely see new R1's here, let alone old ones. Its been years since I saw an early one. The other bike is a 1936 Rudge 500 TT Racer.
The lathe is a Warco, nothing special about it in itself, it's just that I have memories with it that mean something to me.
When my son was growing up I taught him to make stuff on it.

R1s are sensible money, I toy with getting a 99 one (I had a 98 one) for track days, but 26 years ago my R1 was much faster than me and I never felt like I was using it's performance, so if I buy another track bike it will probably have 50% of the power of an R1 just so I feel like I'm using it.
