I think there’s definitely a resurgence of lower capacity bikes, especially off road types.

Also Chinese seems to be hitting the market in a big way, for good or for bad.

I remember my Dads generation saying that about Japanese bikes! :D

I'm always worried that at near 50 I'm one of the younger people anywhere I see bikes/bikers. But was very pleasantly surprised that in Torquay last week I saw more yoots on noisy 125s and older SVs and sportsbikes than I saw shiny £20k GS's. Maybe parts of the SW are still flying the younger bikers flag.

Re new bikes I'm finding myself interested in the new crop of smaller bikes as a 2nd bike option for shitty weather. I'm more than happy with the GSXS, it's fast, comfortable, handles well etc and see no point moving it on as a main bike.

I ran into a young bloke on Saturday morning who was running a 125 Svartpilen* and looking forward to passing his test and getting a 600. They're out there.

* I wandered over to look at it and was amazed at the amount of corrosion on a 4 year old bike! Unfortunately he keeps it outside and lives in a coastal town.

The last local bike gathering had a fair smattering of young riders, pre 20s and although oul boys like myself were well represented, there was plenty of 30s + folk on sportsbikes too.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm on a Suffolk motorcycling Facebook page and most of the members are a fair bit younger than my 58 years old, also a lot of them are young women, a lot of the members are on 125s and discuss passing their tests a lot, they're not too amused by those older members, like me, that had a ride round the block test.

Maybe just me then, growing up I didn't really know anyone that wasn't into bikes, we all devoured the latest edition of Performance Bikes and it was a big part of life, I wasn't really seeing that these days but perhaps it's still there and I'm just not connected to it anymore.

I suppose there must be some demand because the manufacturers are still making them, but I reckon if I was still as into bikes as I used to be and buying the latest sports bikes then my license wouldn't last long in the UK (or my wheel rims).

Two sides to that I think. Yes, there are more speed cameras, average cameras etc and if you got caught it'd be pretty bad. But with the over reliance on cameras if you are canny, then the chance of seeing a police car are very small. I did 155 miles the other weekend and saw 1 cop car, do it in a quiet place and I think there is less chance of getting caught now.

The pot holes though...yeah that's a real problem.

Don't forget the do gooders with dash cams that like submitting footage to the five-o.

Another reason I tend to go out very early Sunday morning when possible. Often see few cars on the good roads.

Nope, much like speeding, you've just got to know where to go, country roads with minimal HGV usage are still in good nick.

Yeah, fair from what I saw over the other weekend. But getting to them or linking them I come across some proper horrible bastid pot holes.

When I did a speed awareness course, the host said there are more prosecutions from public footage submissions than Police captured stuff!

Did you get done for attempted speeding ?
