We had done some vague planning for the summer but brought it forward to Feb 2001.
Bow registry office (my brother had been married there in 1980).
Beautiful sunny day - Left Tam with some friends to get ready whilst I went to Tottenham Court Road to pick up the flowers etc-

Got to the registry office passed in a blur.
All my family were there but Tams couldn’t make it (her brother flew over the following weekend)
Meal in a restaurant near St Paul’s FOF booked it and we got a room to ourselves.
Had drinks and quiet knees up at a friends flat in the evening.
Fast forward 6 months and repeated in Japan with Kimono for both of us - special photos and big family event.

registry office: noun

An office for putting domestic servants in touch with employers
A registrar's office, (strictly, register office) where births, etc are recorded and civil marriages are celebrated

Well I've had it, strictly, wrong all my life. :D

The first definition fits a few marriages that I know too. (+ a few that haven't ended up as 'civil' )

December 2003. Little White Wedding Chapel, Las Vegas. Just her and me.

Getting married wasn't discussed until a few days before we flew out.

So ago it is but a vague memory. As I recall I had very little choice in the arrangements, but it was in a Methodist chapel.

I did one in 2003 with my first (practice) wife, can't be arsed to think or write about it.

Proper one will be late summer / early autumn this year if we can get ourselves organised, been engaged for 9 years so we're getting around to it! Neither of us wants a big fuss so there will be 10 people, including us two.

Absolutely loved our wedding, was an amazing day.

I had never been bothered about the whole marriage thing, until suddenly I was! This was back in 2007 just before my big bike crash, which kinda stalled plans somewhat, however once I was semi healthy I put my plans in place, but nearly made a total arse of the proposal. I still had a left arm in a full length cast and it had to be strapped across my body, but I couldn't put the ring box in my right cargo shorts pocket as Nikki was driving and it'd have been obvious there was a big box in my pocket (ohh Matron) when she was changing gear. So left pocket it was. I'd planned on us going to the Orchard in Grantchester with a picnic by the river just past it. I was nervous as hell and come the time had a right job trying to get the ring out of my left pocket with my right arm whilst sitting on a picnic blanket with Nikki asking me WTF I was doing  Luckily it all worked out.

That was in August 2007 and we shortly after started doing the house up and one night painting the walls we were discussing dates when we decided April would be good...which we then realised was 6 months away by this point. We went to 4 venues and weren't feeling any of them, or the prices!! We didn't wanna be cheap but a lot of wedding stuff is pure price gouging. The 5th venue was perfect, exactly what we wanted, small manor house with a marquee in the back garden. It was even better when he asked when we wanted to get married and we said (by now) 5 months away and he said as its within 6 months and the date is free I'll give you 50% off

Come the day it was a smallish affair with only family and close friends but exactly what we wanted. The ceremony was perfect, the speeches really good especially from my older brother, the meal and the party just went great and whilst it flew by it was how we'd wanted it. Wouldn't have changed a single thing.

My wedding night I spent what felt like forever removing bloody hair pins out of Nikki's head. But even that just was great, as was the first time in the day we'd had time to just chat and absorb the day. Perfect. Next day we flew to Thailand for a fab honeymoon. That was April 2008 and with meeting Nikki and having the kids, up there as one of the best days ever. She's magic :obscene-drinkingcheers:

This was just after the meal, and my favourite pic of the day as no posing like all the official ones. And yes, my Mrs is tall anyway before she puts heels on.

On our first date I turned up at her door step, which had about a 12 inch step to the door and she was wearing heels, she later told me she thought she'd been so drunk the night we met she'd forgotten I was some sort of hobbit

I used to work with a stunning looking woman. A real show stopper. Lovely friendly girl too. Anyway, I walk into the kitchen area and she's in there talking to some other female colleagues. I say hello to them all, and stand next to her to get my cup from the cupboard behind her. I notice her looking me up and down and say to her, "Alright"?
She replies "Yes, I was just thinking, isn't your wife lucky"?
 So, jokingly I say, "yes I'd like to think so".
She replies, "My other half is shorter than me, and I can never wear heels".
For a moment there...

Met my wife via visordown on a drinks. We were both seeing other people at the time, neither very serious.

I’d apparently said I knew fuck all about bikes on the forum and had been quite barbed about folk that just sit around and talk about bikes ( doesn’t sound like me). Nicki turned up with a pack of ‘Top Trumps bikes’ for me and we just clicked. Ended up back at hers that night, via being picked up by Weeksy from the train station (I’d missed my last train). Nothing dodgy happened that night but we clicked.

Went on our first date Feb 25th, moved in together April when we discovered she was pregnant ( so didn’t have to do any of the moving boxes!).

Had two kids. Whilst flying over Australia, I took the opportunity to ask her dad for her hand in marriage. We both had phobias of flying, so I thought it was good timing. I reckon I could have asked him for his wallet and he would have said yes 😀

He then died soon after and we decided to have the wedding at their local church. I’m not religious in the slightest, but it meant something for them.

I had a light ‘stag’ in Cambridge then a traditional night out the night before the wedding. I do not, and I cannot stress this point enough, recommend doing this. A load of my Cambridge uni mates and I went to a rural pub quiz in Oxford, they found out we were Cambridge and I was getting married the next day. This triggered two things: regret when we stuffed them in the pub quiz, and everyone and their dog seemed to get me a drink. I’ve no idea how I got back to where I was staying.

Next day was wedding. I’m not sharing photos- wife looks stunning, I look as though I’ve been run over and then bummed.

Her lucky number is 8, so we were married 080808. After the wedding service, we all turned to the back of the church and baptised our daughter.

Now 5 kids, eldest 20 and youngest about to turn 14.

People gave us the ‘it won’t last’ and ‘she’s mental/he’s mental’ tripe. adore her just as much now as I did all those years ago.

Im a giant at 6' 1" apparently, this was exaggerated by a photo at the weekend with her wider family and I must be a good 6" taller than the next tallest

There’s a photo of me on our “day” in Japan when I’ve been kitted up with a grooms kimono daft socks wooden shoes etc….i don’t look particularly happy but that’s because I’m suffering one of the top 5 hangovers of my at the time 42 years.

The day after the Great Storm of 1987. The wind was the least of our problems. Wife needed a root canal just before the wedding. Vintage Rolls Royce blew up, photographer double booked so he rushed it and photos were so bad we didn't buy them, the bells didn't work, I knelt on my wife's dress so she nearly fell over when we stood up, my mates thought it funny to leave the car on bricks but they were under the jacking points so getting it down was dicey, best man broke the film in my camera so no honeymoon photos just one of his girlfriend. The list goes on but were still together to laugh about it,
