I thought used oil would rot wood? We had a couple of trees removed recently and the boyo recommended drilling the stumps and firing in used engine oil.DefTrap wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 10:36 am No wonder so much flytipping goes on.
I use my old engine oil to paint the decking. Yeah I probably shouldn't.

I had the same advice after having a tree taken down - but the oil was to make sure the stump died, not rotted.Skub wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 12:38 pmI thought used oil would rot wood? Re: Brake Fluid disposal
My neighbour used to soak the foot of his fenceposts in a mix of old motor oil and diesel and as a yoot when I worked on farms we were forever dousing fencing with it. It was the cheap version of creosote. And farmers seem to have plenty of used motor oil and certainly loads of cheap dlesel.Skub wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 12:38 pm I thought used oil would rot wood? I would imagine DEFRA and a few other people might frown on that sort of thing these days.
Which probably means it's more common than ever.

Farmers are just about the only people who are still allowed to buy proper creosote, not the water based stuff the general public have to use.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 3:08 pm I would imagine DEFRA and a few other people might frown on that sort of thing these days.
