Are they not Chinese with an Italian name now, like benelli?

KTM 890 Adv, Tracer 900, gsxs 1000GT, Z1000SX, Guzzi TT85?

The smaller bikes are, but the 1200s are proper Italian stallions as far as I know.

2nd viewing of the GS by potential purchaser tomorrow, hopefully they are tall enough to be tempted to part with ready cash (1st viewer was 5'6" 🤣) coz I need to go test ride that Morini Scrambler- it's lighter, lower, less ubiquitous and even got more ponies than the GS so I'm pretty sold on it already.

Someone on the forum, or maybe it was TRC had the 1200 Granpasso, I can't remember who it was or if it was any good.

HTH.

Well I've sold the GS 😁
On relative numbers alone I must be fucking mad, there are 4000 r1200gs adventures registered in UK & just 15 Morini Scramblers...

Deal done and deposit paid, gonna be mapped, de-catted & bars lowered a tad, then I collect it in a couple of weeks time 🙂 I think the only similarity to an sv650 is that it's a motorcycle & an inline vee twin, but plans are meant to change eh?

I'm sure someone in the mags (Bike?) bought one years and years, sure it was his not a mag bike. I also seem to recall he liked it. You defo won't see another at a bike meet! Top bombing.

I did indeed..it was an awesome bike, a tad heavy but great fun to ride .. I sold it when we moved house and it became a bit heavy to move about on my sloping driveway..kept it for several years which is testament in itself..several bikes later I now have a Moto Morini Xcape ..designed by Morini but built under licence in China.. 650 copy of the Versys engine and some decent bolt on bits like Brembo brakes. Very happy with it 1000 miles in .

Collecting the Scrambler tomorrow 😀 they've now got a Granpasso in stock now so might have to look at how they differ in the luggage carrying dept whilst I'm there.

Well a bit of a damp start from Stoke, needing to find a petrol station to fill up before the ride home got me a bit lost, but a quick Google + photographic map memory soon got me on the way home & eventually dry roads. This bike just wants to go, crack the throttle & it's off like a scalded cat, so different to either the lazy GS or ponderous Guzzi and handling is 100% better than both, bit on the stiff side but for a first ride very rewarding felt so much easier to lean in and out of roundabouts, only downsides was numb bum after 100+ miles & getting used to chain maintenance after 17yrs of shafties is gonna be a trial.

Given it's a big V-twin it might be worse and a lot might depend on the chain fitted. On my GSXS1000 though I lube it around every 400 miles, clean it occasionally (WD40 chain cleaner is ace) and so far I've only adjusted it once, and the shop did it once at a service, so twice in 4400 miles.

I've got a couple of chain oilers laying about so will fit one of them to the AT.

My GSXS is on it's original chain and sprockets at 18000 miles, front sprocket shows a little wear, I lube it when I remember, and adjust it when it feels like it needs it, the chain is still tight on the rear sprocket, but I ride very smoothly now I'm old.

Just realised that reads like I'm adjusting the chain tight, what I mean is you can barely pull the chain away from the rear sprocket.

After getting it home, a week later I got it out on the drive ready to pop round to show it off to an old mate & it started smoking from under the seat, thought it might be a bit of gunk on the exhaust but oh no it had gone all Italian on me and tried to self combust via an electrical fault 😕 got picked up last night & returned to dealer to be fixed " they all do that sir" 🤣😯
