I've lent a few out and theres always some rivet who runs the foam out and leaves it empty, or removes the can and can't find another or just so dense that they remove the old can and bugger off to have their butties so whatever is left in the gun goes off and thats my 20 quid gun knackered.

OSB, vapour barrier, then insulation sheets between the studs.
I usually staple the vapour barrier to the studs(as few staples as you can get away with) then the OSB over it. Oh don't forget to tape the joints on the vapour barrier
One place I worked at had what was called Smartply which is OSB thats got a solid plastic surface that acts as a vapour barrier and you just tape the joints up but I've been told it was very expensive, not sure how much I believe that.
Thick enough OSB and you can put a screw in it anywhere for shelves/whatever.

If you're buying one I can recommend the Bosch cordless. It should be man enough for the job and it's not a hulking big thing so it's nice to use if you're doing a fair number of staples.
