I am currently using 3 pleasing purchases and been using them for a while. All good bits of kit.

No. 1 is the Proxxon BS/A a cordless 'finger' belt sander. Great for getting into tight corners and sanding the inside edges of holes etc. I bought a load of sanding belts and a spare battery along with it and as a lot of the current work is away from the house with no electricity (there is electricity available but I'd need 50+ metres of cable) is been a very good buy.

No 2 is a Dremel VersaTip gas torch. This come with a few different tips for cutting (and sealing) rope, soldering, basic flame and a hot air tip with a shaped attachment useful for shrink wrapping wiring. I used it as a gas torch to remove all the old paint from the sole plate of my boat - it gave just the right amount of heat to get the paint off without damaging the fibreglass/epoxy underneath. It's a great soldering torch as well; I've been soldering some marine grade tinned copper wire and again it delivered just the right heat on a low setting where my other soldering irons were producing too much heat. Fills up with gas lighter fluid which is pennies here. A very pleasing purchase.

No 3 is/are Mirka Abranet sanding discs. They claim dust free sanding and that's almost true. As a sort of abrasive mesh the built in dust extraction on the sander works so much better than with regular sanding discs. When they're getting a bit tired from the ROS they still have loads of life in them for hand sanding and fold up nicely to get into tricky corners. I bought 10 discs each of 80, 120 and 240 grit back in July and haven't thrown one disc away yet. Seriously, the dog's doodahs of sanding discs.

I got all of the above here in Turkey as well and at the same price as UK - if I'd waited a bit, the rate of exchange would have made them cheaper. Of course, if I'd known how the exchange rate was going to go I could have put my self in the position where I could pay for people to do the work instead of buying tools but hey ho.

I've seen belt sanders with very abrasive belts used to grind the heads right off mullered bolts !

I was talking to one of my guitar mates the other day and we touched on our first guitars, I always regret selling mine, even though it was par the course of selling/trading in and upgrading.
So I decided what the hell, first stop eBay and searched for sunn mustang, not really expecting to find anything.
Well I did, but it wasn’t quite the same as my one, HSS rather than SSS so onto reverb.
Found one that looked identical for £150. Then I went off for a little search on YouTube and to my utter amazement it turns out that they are not total garbage. I’d bought it for nostalgia not really expecting much from it.
Should be with me this week.


I’ve searched for the Kramer I had but no joy, I can’t remember the model number. My mate had the Striker 610st which I did find and always liked it but turns out that has a plywood body. I’m not sentimental enough over my mates guitar to own that one and tbh mine was a cheaper model.

I wonder if I can shoehorn a Dave Murray loaded pickguard in that!?!

Any of the Strat copy bodies will take what a strat can take. Sometimes the pick guard holes may be a little 'off',but no biggy.

My go to home lash up/parts bin special was my usual gigging guitar and because stuff is cnc machined now it takes very little work to get everything fired together and set up the way you like.

Cavalier strat p/ups in neck and middle,then a fat lion telecaster one bodged into the bridge position.
Wilkinson hardware and a bone nut.

So really,you can make an allsorts and most things are fairly interchangeable.

Edit...Fender USA use imperial screws and Fender Japan use metric,but minor differences.
