It was mentioned on an air ambulance obdoc a couple of years ago.

Guy in a BMW had a head-on collision in a remote Yorkshire lane. Car phoned for aid. IIRC he said that he was unaware of the system.

BIL has one of those Apple watches and if you even look at it sideways it wants to call for a hurry up wagon. We were cutting down trees last week and he had to take it off, ditto with him playing golf.

The watch that cries wolf.
As I understood it, if the car thinks you've been in an accident, someone, somewhere calls the car, so a human will speak to you and ask if you are OK or do you need help. If you don't reply they trigger the emergency services. I think I'd gone into   mode by then when the dealer was waxing lyrical about it so I may have switched off. It's just a hybrid shopping trolley car not some bonkers sort of mix of Formula 1 car and sheltered housing.

If that's what the Apple watch does, Lord help us all! (Just how big is their call centre?!).
I was watching a Youtube video the other week of a bloke on a GS and he dropped the bike as he stopped to park. He not only had to deal with the embarrassment of it from the people in the car park who came to help but he also had to tell the lady from BMW he'd been a prat via the phone call he got within a min of him dropping it. He compounded it by putting it on youtube

I can see the benefit of having it on the bike though, there are times where I've thought 'If I bin this now no one is gonna find me for ageeesssss'

Doesn't have to be anywhere remote.

A guy crashed off the A3. It was a week before they found him.

Absolutely, my main reason for thinking of it was the busy B road I used to ride home on. There was a glorious right hander that I used to take the piss on a bit, there was a bit of a hedge and then a 10ft drop into a sheep field. If I lost it there I'd have gone down the bank from view and no one would have found me till the farmer came to check the sheep.

I dropped the GS at a junction last year.

I got a call whilst the bike was lying on its side. I just had to say everything was okay.

It’s a good thing to have and it’s down in the latest build as free although I think when I bought mine I had to pay for it.

That includes the recall for a software update. Guy said it can take from a few minutes up to 8 hours to install just depends on the bike.

So I’m getting a courtesy bike. I asked if they had an RS but it’s more likely to be a scooter which should be entertaining.

Costing about £240 he said. Not a lot in the scheme of things.
I hope to god they're not charging you for plugging in a usb cable?

No, it’s a recall of all the 125O’s to fix a gearbox problem.

The cost quoted is for the service.

Is it the recall to put the shaft vent in or did yours come with it already done?

Mine came already done.

Seemingly there have been reports of the gearbox input shaft breaking.

I think it’s to do with if the back wheel is off the ground and the difference between engine speed and rotational speed of the final drive. At least so I’ve read.

When a software update can fix that you know bikes are getting too complicated.

Although as my back wheel is highly unlikely to ever get off the ground I’m not particularly concerned.

Well it’s going.

After 13 months I’ve decided it’s overkill for the Mrs and I to do days out with the occasional blast with some mates.

Plus I’m not getting any younger or stronger and it’s a heavy old beast to manoeuvre.

Although I’m in a way sad to see it go as it’s a fabulous bike on the move.

However looking forward to something slightly lighter and lower. The trade in’s done, just waiting for delivery. The salesman’s hoping to call in a few favours and get it for the end of the month.

Watch this space.

Crap n double crap.

I was promised it for next week but it’s been delayed till the 20th of May.

I’ve got a weekend away and was going to limit my fun mileage but they’ll just have to suck up whatever miles I put on it over the next 4 weeks.

I’ve already stripped off all the extras and sold the Vario top plate so I can’t even use the top box. That’s counting your chickens I suppose.

I would say more "trusting a BMW sales dept" error than counting your chickens ;)

That's a bit of an arse when you're expecting something!

Took if for a weekend away to Aberfoyle with some mates and went out a run today. Got 30 miles and it lost power, presumably dropped down to one cylinder.

Turned it off and back on and it seemed okay again but I just turned back to the hotel.

I reckon once I get home that’s it till trade in time. I wasn’t really keen on putting miles on it anyway so this is as good an excuse as any.

Its a shit feeling when you used to look forward to riding a bike and you get to the "cant wait till its gone and something else is here" time
