No, for uptake to work, it has to work for people. Just saying "you will have to" won't wash.
As I've said loads of times, I think it's the people who will change more than the cars. When it costs twice as much to own a petrol car over a battery one people will suddenly discover that they
don't need to be able travel 500 miles at the drop of a hat. Something which they've probably never done even when they owned a petrol car.
There will always be outliers, but they'll remain exactly that.

You can pump RON98 fuel straight out of the ground?? Where?
It costs fuck all find it, drill it, crack it and get it to the forecourt.
Refining is less than 2p a litre. So, yes, in essence you pump it straight from the ground. The cost of finding it, drilling it and getting to the refinery is way less than the tax on it, something like 40p a litre. The rest is duty and tax... or as it should be called. A tax and another tax... so great they even tax the tax.

Yes its not always windy, before someone says it
However, using 'off peak' wind generated (or wave, tidal, etc) to create hydrogen, which can be stored and provided quickly at fuel stations to hybrids gets around a lot of objections.

That ^^^^
This is just a small area of Preston, Lancs. The North of England is full of streets like this. They don't even have a back garden, just a yard let alone a driveway on t'front.

I do find it funny that there's all these programmes and trials and the like for self-driving cars, but nothing yet that puts the charge lead into the car automatically...unless I've missed it?

Didn't they look at battery stations, where a nearly empty is swapped for a full one. ? Bit like bbq gas bottles. You don't keep the same battery. Think this would have made good sense, having universal batteries for similar cars, in and out in minute's. Stations in every town. Manufacturers working together.

They would need to be incredibly well secured given the lengths thieves go to get bits of cars worth ÂŁ1k let alone ÂŁ10k.

Given that the charging cables cost north of ÂŁ1500.... it will be interesting what the travellers do, when the streets are lined with these.... apart from the trip hazards of course.

Yes, you have. There are places already where buses and taxis recharge just by stopping in the correct place.
And odd, too, that petrol stations don't have autofill for petrol

Limited use of pooled electric Renault Twangos for the dissenters!
And decrease their ration of textured insect protein!

As you creep further and further towards being toxic elderly.... it must pull you in opposing directions. On the one hand, you love big engines and plastic clothing, cheap tacky trainers and the ilk - on the flip side you want to appear to be âdahn widdit, low key peng and eco friendlyâ all the time, youâre edging ever closer to be toxic....

And how long before thatâs a reality for the average home user.... who has permit parking on a back street.

No idea
The challenge from KD was answered, but I didn't give a timescale

I think the idea is that the car takes itself off somewhere to be charged while you are otherwise engaged.
Best hope you don't live 49% of the cars range from the nearest station.

So from the potential range of options: full electric, plug in hybrid, hybrid, hydrogen fuel cell, inductive charging, etc., there should be something for everyone.

This poses more questions than it gives answers tbh, by the very nature of people getting home from work pretty much all together. Then the logistics of those who want their car to piss off now, vs those who plan to go out tonight, vs those who just got home and now realise they need to go back to work or to pick their kid up from the station etc etc etc.
I canât see this âwaiting for your car to come backâ will ever be popular enough. Yeah yeah youâll cry âtough thatâs how itâs going to beâ, I disagree. The car is so popular because itâs there when you need it, not 30mins or 4hrs charging time away.
People already pay a premium to have a car there ready when they want it...if it wasnât one of the main driving forces, rent a car by the hour would already be a thing, and it isnât apart from those who live in cities and are happy to use taxis.

Some bloke had the balls to show up at the RockStore yesterday on one of those HD electric contraptions. He helped make a complete spectacle of himself by wearing a full suit in dayglo wally bib yellow.
