Tyre wear causes pollution too. Especially on heavy EV's constantly accelerating and decelerating.
Euro 7 will be definitely limiting brake emissions and is also looking at tyre abrasion too.
The particles will end up in water courses and so as a polluting factor should be considered when setting VED which is based on vehicle age and emissions.
Making a new car is environmentally damaging in itself so as a car ages the age element of the VED due on it should reduce IMO.

It's an opinion
The $numbers are taken from company accounts...So that's math, not opinion.

He said a few things in the video, finishing up with Tesla model 3 make a great choice as an everyday car as long as you have a couple of 80s supercars in the garage.
I got the impression he thinks all new cars are getting worse to drive and EVs are worst of that bunch, I'd agree with that but I'd still have one as a 2nd car.

I wonder whether there are any ICE : EV comparisons which take into account aspects such as tyre and brake residues? Especially since EVs have varying degrees of regenerative braking is reduced brake pad dust.

I had a quick look but didn't see anything that looked like a good reference. I guess it's very variable by driving style and vehicle type/weight so difficult to measure.

Didn't they just announce that Model 3 production was ending?

No. Model S and Model X are finishing.

The friends that came to visit today had just picked up their new EV - its a Smart 4x4
It looks freaking huge but they really like it (it is very new though!)
They've wanted an EV for a while but didn't because they regularly drive from here to the Spanish coast - roughly 12 hours apparently. So they didn't want to get one that would add about 3 - 5 hours to the travel time with charging
Apparently the Smart has a 500km range and can get to 80% in 20 minutes on the fast charger!!!!
Shame I wasn't living in the valley when I bought my car as I did like the Dacia Leaf but had no way of being sure to charge it in resort.
Will be interesting to see how they got on for the first trip to Spain in 2 weeks

Seems like I'm going to become a 2 ev family. I've ordered a Tesla Model 3 on their new PCH offer. The standard offer is 2 yrs, 8k miles and £295 down, for £295 a month.
I've upped mine to 15k miles for 2 yrs and £960 down, for £325 a month. I know it's like a hire car for 2 yrs, but I'm ok with that. i estimate that I'm going to save about £150-£200 a month in fuel, so man maths says i'm getting a brand new car for £175 a month.
It is a bog standard Model 3 mind you, again, happy with that.
The arguments will ensue over who's using the home charger I guess!!

I'd be worried about the standard of the repair, not a great start.

That can't be rocket science to work out can it.
They only polute the amount theyve worn off them per mile.
How much extra do the tyres weigh and how much is the difference between new and worn compared to ICE cars.
Basically I'm calling bullshit on it being anything even close to the difference in polution from the engine.

I seem to remember reading something from a scientist who knows about such things, that if when that started to go after emissions they were as they are now, they wouldn't have bothered. Instead the focus would have been on tyres.

Hmm, think I'm going to need some numbers really.
Weight of new and worn tyres, EV versus ICE and average tyre lifespan for each
Hell, I know how long my van tyres last and thats a fair old size with pretty heavy tyres.
The amount of tyre lost per thousand miles is kind of fuckall really.
I get that tyre particulate matter might not be the nicest stuff but this issue reads like guff spread about to muddy the waters.

EVs do eat tyres. I’ve gone through a set in 15K. Not cheap either

As I understand it the main issue with tyre pollution is the wash-off from the roads. That's a nasty lot of liquid. There are areas at the side of the M25 where they've had to do mitigation constructions to keep it off agricultural land that it was rendering unfit for crops.
Worse than diesel particulate related problems or NOx and CO2? Probably not but it, and brake dust, are just next on the list to do something about.
Air con gas wasn't the biggest problem in the world but something could be done about it - so they did.

i asked ChatGPT "compare electric vehicle tyre wear with internal combustion engine vehicle tyre wear"
Bottom line:
Average tyre lifespan:
EV 15,000–30,000 miles
ICE 20,000–40,000 miles
I.e. EVs get 25% fewer miles or ICE gets 33% more miles per tyre.

Have you seen that China have banned leccy door handles?
There's been quite a few cases where in a crash if the 12v power fails you can't open the doors. IIRC a family in Germany burnt to death in a Tesla and the same keeps happening in China (I guess they just don't think about kicking the windscreen out.
