Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
The orange thing is really showing itself as a one bike does it all kind of bike.
It was happy on the road doing 1000m climb to Avoriaz, it was happy on the trails around Morzine and Switzerland, it was just as happy today locally at home too.
The only thing it needed was a 2nd pair of wheels/tyres really.
There's a longer term plan forming for next year of building his 2nd Session as a bike for the Alps, but we'll see if that gathers any legs.

Still rocking the Fuel locally. Have had to do a bit of work on it with 2 freehub bearings which were dead on it, but also replaced the BB at the same time, in truth i'm not sure if the BB was an issue but i had some weird clicking, clunking etc. The wheels were the Hunt which came on his Privateer and they'd not been touched since about 2021, so that's pretty decent considering the abuse they've had thrown at them.
Need to do a spoke check as i think a couple felt a little soft yesterday, but i'll do that after lunch today.

Got the DMR Vaults back on there as well at the moment, i took the DMR V11s off to fit to his Dirt Jump bike for Malverns at the weekend, not got round to whipping them back off it yet.

Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
Having a little play in the garage today with suspension on the Fuel.
I'd never given it much thought on the 'progression' setting, but it seems mine was set on 'MORE' which is apparently less plus... I'd never given much thought to what more progressive meant in a suspension context. But in previous rides i've gone with a slightly lower shock and higher sag at 35-38% to give a nicer feel, but maybe what i want is to flip to Less progression and a bit more air. So i've now gone to 235psi on the back which is giving about 23% sag as a start point. I'm hoping this will prop up the back just a little as at times you can feel your feet/pedals dragging a bit easier than i'd like on ruts..

Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
Bit of winter tyre swapping today, taking off the XR4 fast rolling super quick rubber, which massively saddens me, but with the rain getting more and more regular it's only a matter of time.
Weirdly despite both only having been on there for about 4 months there was very little in the way of Stans fluid in either, the rear had a bit more... but both must have had enough as there were 7 thorns in total ... proper decent sized ones too.

Oh yes, i like that Magic Mary on the front. It's a 2.6 which is obviously pretty meaty but seems ace.

They do grip well - even in the unfashionable non radial formatweeksy wrote: Thu Sep 18, 2025 1:06 pm Oh yes, i like that Magic Mary on the front. It's a 2.6 which is obviously pretty meaty but seems ace.

Yeah this is a non-radial, i'm not even sure where/how it appeared in the garage or on what... but i must admit, i like.. It even seems to roll well.

Still throwing the miles in on this, today was a great blast around Greenham common, which is surprisingly good fun in the woods bits. The bike performed really well as always

Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
Spent some time at FoD with @Taff yesterday, he was on the Eeb so i was massively underpowered with legs only... However i'm used to that and as long as the person you're with knows and accepts it, i have no issues. We had a couple of overtakes on us from Eeb riders, 2 who we re-caught and didn't see again.
The Fuel and me were happy and on form, first time in SOOOO long riding in the rain and wet trails, but once you accept it's wet, well it's just wet and you go with it.
I've been working on my trail speed and cornering with the boy and it's coming together mostly, i was hitting corners i used to brake on without touching the brakes, even if a little sketchy in the wet at times.
The Fuel keeps holding me back from getting an Eeb (Mondraker Sly is current favourite) though as it's just so so damn effective.
It had a strip down of the pivot points and headset today as it was insanely wet and muddy, so it deserved a little TLC.

Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
Just ordered some new forks. Since day 1 almost the Fox36 have had bushing play in them. We got rid of it from the LBS stripping the lowers and giving it new oil and a service on his, but it's returned again. Mine had it since day 1 as well.

The Lyriks are considered awesome and a 160mm goes straight on the frame without issues (from 150). I've then booked in the 36s for warranty with Fox/Silverfish. Once they're done i'll send off the 2nd set.
We can then have both bikes fully running for the duration. Along with being able to decide if he/I prefer the 160Lyrik or not.
If we both prefer the 160 Lyriks then i'll order a 2nd set.

Re: NMTBD. The orange is bacccccccck. Sorta :)
Been off the bike for this week due to some knee issues. It's a long-ongoing thing but i'm not ready to go back under the knife yet.
So today was a test before this weekends riding. It went pretty well all things considered.

Lyriks are on as is the mudhugger i bought, we'll see how they go at the weekend but they feel good at the moment. Maybe a little too much air, but we'll see when i hit a few trails.

The knee was repaired about 15 years back but they're only ever a short term fix as things wear out, usually it's not a big issue, but sometimes it gives me a load of hassle, often after walking, which i did about 4 miles of last Sat.... which kinda screwed it up.
As for the eeb, well i'm not saying no.
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Mondraker-Sly- ... ku=1005347

The Mondraker Sly really has got me interested, it's got all the bits on there, got the lighter SX motor/battery, we've both ridden the Dune XR which is basically the carbon version and really liked it.. But i'm still fighting the urge at the moment.
