British Leyland made awful cars.

To be fair to the Allegro it was a comfortable car that went well (for a 1970s saloon), it went round corners with a lot of body roll but didn't misbehave, certainly a better car to use than a 1979 Escort or Golf, but it was poorly assembled, both body and engine, and the body was made out of cheap, poorly painted steel, which rotted (where it wasn't covered in oil), and it was pig ugly

I've got a 70s car. It's technically classic and doesn't need tax or MOT or anything, but it's more just that it's quite old. Still used as much as ever, and not usually for anything glamorous, more for chucking a load of shit in the back of. Sometimes I let it sit in the garden though to be used as a big table.

Have the Vitesse...its a little quicker....and if its a saloon, the roof unbolts very easily. Just dont put any weight in the boot if you do that.

Have the Vitesse...its a little quicker....and if its a saloon, the roof unbolts very easily. Just dont put any weight in the boot if you do that.

Unlikely I'll ever find one here (that I can afford!) or have a garage to keep it in. But it's a nice dream!

A Manta weighs about the same as a modern Fiesta, GTEs are a claimed 140bhp, so more than a 3 litre Capri.

Driving a Capri is like taking the seat out of a normal car and sitting on the floor as far back as possible. They're alright on an open road, but horrible in built up areas

I lived in the countryside so I couldn't see over the hedges even in a Landy!! LOL Would have been awesome!

Bought one a few years back. God only knows why. It was a '74, IIRC, with round rear wheel arches (geeks know that this is quite rare as they changed them from square, to round and then back again). It was fun a for a fortnight, then I suddenly had this epiphany and thought, 'What the fuck do I want this for?'.

Flogged it on for about the same money, but having done a few bits, such as a new windscreen and brightwork.


I now keep finding myself looking at late model (Rev 4/5) Toyota MR2s. T-bar, cassette deck and pop-up lights. Hell, yeah.....

£5k will buy you a project, not a usable classic. £7k might get you a nice early 80's merc saloon that you could use as a daily but I think you have to be into 5 figures..
