Having a central heating boiler that's scheduled to be replaced in June/July break down in March. And a quote of £875 to fix it...

When you watch a Youtube vid on a particular trade job and think to yourself, 'Looks easy enough...'
Going through that loop at the moment. How difficult can it be to put up 2 × 5m lengths of guttering + downpipes into 2 water butts?
Piece of cake according to Youtube.
I haven't got round to climbing the ladder with a 4m length of guttering yet. Funnily enough the chap on t'Tube's job meant he could stand on terra firma...and his downpipe didn't go round a corner etc etc.
My biggest problem was trying to reduce the pipe sizes on the way down.

That's roughly half the cost of new isn't it?
Oil or gas?

68mm all the way.

I would like to come up with a neat entry into the covered water butts though. (At the previous house the outgoing chap left one that collected water off the workshop/shed that had a gap around the drain - which was investigated by nesting birdies, that couldn't swim.

Might just have a 'shoe' on the end of the pipe and a hole in the lid with mesh over.

Gas boiler. The real pisser is that I've got a new gas boiler still in the box ready to be installed, cost me about £1400 a year or so ago. It was supposed to be installed last summer but a combination of circumstances meant it couldn't be. It's proved to be an expensive delay...

Some of you very old timers might remember back in the early VD days, me complaining about having to deal with the mechanical woes of a fellow courier named Locky who always had some disaster befall him.
Today he jumped off the footbridge over the Lagan in central belfast and is currently on a ventilator, in an induced coma but I'm told it's not looking good.
He'd been in a bad place since his sister and mum died and I think he went looking for help but was turned away by the hospital.
Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

It's tough. I've nearly done it twice. Had angry ideas dozens of times.

Letting off steam helps. Don't care if folk take the piss. A release valve keeps you alive.

@Bigjawa hugest hugs to you. It is so so sad when someone feels that bad, that unable to cope that they take an irreversible decision.
The only thing that has stopped me over the years is knowing how pissed off some people would be that I'd done it and hadn't talked to them (maybe upset?!). Its way harder for people they leave behind, even if they think no one cares, there are always people that care

See above, but just the first line of the three

Well today has went from bad to worse, Locky is in the Royal in an induced coma on a ventilator and had to be jump started 3 times yesterday but the docs aren't giving much hope.
On top of that, I've just found out another guy I used to knock about with has had a leg amputated and is in a bad way about it.
Starting to wonder what's going to happen next.

DX Express. The only company that make Evri look good. Not that is not true. UPS also but DX. I get a delivery window 17:41 - 19:41. Fine as wife and myself were at home. No knock at door, no ring of bell not attempt delivery card. 5 minutes after my delivery window is over the item is scanned back into DX warehouse in Edinburgh. 40 miles away from me. It takes 20 minutes from my house to the A1. Another 15-20 to the Edinburgh bypass then whatever to drive round the city, all traffic dependent. Not the first time this has happened but i think they only have one item for this town and the driver cant be arsed wasting 40 - 50 minute driving in from the A1 and back again. Alfred was my delivery driver today. Fiver Alfred is off tomorrow and some other poor sod gets to do his work. I say poor sod but he may be another lazy bastard than cant be arsed driving in for one delivery.

They're all immigrants, blow bagpipes at them when they turn up.

Away. If someone was to blaw bagpipes to me i would be off in the opposite direction. Horrid noise.

I've just had a parcel delivered by Evri. He knocked on the door and in the 10 to 15 seconds it took for me to get to the door and open it he was already back at his van, presumably hoping to claim it was undeliverable. Maybe they're on a tight schedule but they should at least wait for a few seconds after knocking on the door before running away.
