We have brown bins (cans, bottles, plastics), blue bins (paper and cardboard) and black bins (general household waste). But there is also a humunguous council-run incinerator less than a mile from us. I wonder what goes in there?

We have 2 + garden waste. Basically landfill/not landfill/compost. (Apparently everything in public waste bins goes to landfill in this area. I was told this by the chap emptying them in the local car park. The one he was emptying was chock full of bottles every week courtesy of a local alcoholic).

According to the gummint, energy from incineration is supposed to be 'residual' waste ie after all possible recycling has been done. I imagine what local authorities think of as 'all possible' varies.

In theory anything with a calorific value could go in inc. garden waste, plastic, cardboard and paper - one can only hope the scrubbers on municipal incinerators are up to scratch. (Wonder what they do with the toxic cocktail from the scrubbers?).

My bmp is vacuum packed mince that was also introduced to help the environment, I'm wondering if I can run the brick through a mincer to turn it back to mince.

Or run the mincer in reverse and turn it back into steak?

Food cartons go in the blue bin here. They've got handy diagrams moulded into the lid . Food cartons, tins, bottles of all kinds, tin foil and plastic all go in the blue. The red is only for "pure" cardboard.

I suppose its fairly straightforward to just mince up and recycle cardboard by itself, which is why they want that on its own. Everything else goes into the separation/ship to a third world country pile.

So my mate Locky had his life support turned off last night.

He was on the organ donor register so his heart was out and on a plane to England within an hour.

He was always bringing me bits to fit to his bikes so it's kinda on brand for his bits to be fitted somewhere else.

If anyone remembers Bod from VD, I bought his seemingly indestructible GS500 and lent it to Locky who killed it stone dead in an afternoon. He was an absolute disaster zone when it came to bikes, but you couldn't help but like the daft big eejit, he was as strong as an ox but he wouldn't have hurt a fly.

When I gave up couriering, I gave him my jacket, when he had his big accident and gave it up too, he gave me it back. I still wear it to this day.

Hopefully if there's a heaven, he's up there with the other guys we lost, bouncing about the bar to one step beyond like we did every Thursday night when we got paid.

Because it makes them easier to recycle. I get some stuff in bottles where the lid does come off but they ask you to put the lids back on when you put them in the recycle bin. Sooooo, the recyclers are keen to keep them tethered where possible.

But who actually, deliberately separates the bottle and cap when recycling? The cardboard tetrapak that my milk comes in is rinsed, squashed flat (to save space in the recycling bin) and then the cap screwed back on to keep it flat. And if we're being really anal, the package is cardboard, the closure is plastic and the two parts should go in different recycling bins.

Here in France there's only 3 bins. General waste, Glass and Packaging.

Ohh and mine today.

Sit up when you eat your food. Do not lower your head until it's 3 inches off the plate. Especially if you are going to regularly berate your child by telling them to "eat properly".

In our little corner of France there's just two - green bin for general waste, yellow bin for cans, plastics and cardboard. You're expected to take your glass waste to the bottle bank for recycling.

I'm clearing out what I can from the old mans place in Ireland. Three bins from a private company, compost, recycling and waste, €221.66 a year, collected every 2 weeks. Many people choose not to have bins. The place isn't strewn with rubbish but I've no idea what they do with it. Entry to the recycling centre is ticket only, €3.50 a go. If you want to get rid of general rubbish at the recycling centre it has to be in a specific blue bag, €6 each.

Just had to pay my annual £50 green bin emptying subscription. On top of the council tax they have the cheek to charge another £50 to take away garden cuttings. Of course it is a bargain compared to me queuing at the local tip throughout the year, but all it's really done locally is lead to flytipping of garden waste everywhere.

Firstly there’s none I actually would use but also, bloody hell they are expensive!!! Even the plug in jobbies aren’t cheap and I have loads at home so really object to buying those!!

I was pissed up at a hotel in Central London last week and wanted some snacks. The hotel has a sort of mini-superette in the foyer for pissed up mugs snacking. 5 quid for a packet of wine gums! Of course I paid it, I couldn't be arsed to walk the 100 yards to where there were lots of proper shops.

Same here but I have 2x green bins. As you say, beats going to the tips with all the coffin dodgers.

Ok, I know I would never have noticed the issue before 6 years ago but FFS, why put the hand towels/paper towels too high up for anyone with only one active arm or anyone quite short to be able to use them? This is Geneva airport. You do really need two hands to get the paper towel and I can’t get one arm that high!!!

Heathrow has some fancy system where the hand dryer is behind the sink. All automated. I can’t reach my right hand that far forward (probably can normally but not after 8+ hours of travelling!!)

Neither place has an option for anyone a bit spazzy (or very short in the case of GVA). Stupid bastards!!!
