Super pleased with my new apple watch ultra 2. Its much bigger than its predecessor and looks much more manly in a grrrr sort of way!

I still can't get over why the Apple watch battery is so bad? The watches are good, but to have to charge it every day or every other day is frankly crap. I have a Amazfit Falcon which is £300 cheaper than the Apple watch, but I only need to charge it every 3 weeks or so, and normally it still has 15-20% charge left when I do!!
When Apple build one that's similar, I'll go back to wearing one. My Apple watch 4 is in a drawer somewhere.

I have 4 watches, all Seiko. An old (1972) automatic that I used to wear every day, a Seiko Kinetic that I bought in 1998 and have worn most days since then, and 2 'bling' Seiko 5s that I wear going out. Total cost/value, not a lot, but I like them.

I feel naked without a watch. I may buy at least 2 more, a chronograph and a GMT. Probably Seiko, unless someone gives me a Rolex.

Likewise. I've worn a watch since I was old enough to read the time,but I've never owned one costing more than £100. My current watch is a cheap Accurist,which needs a battery,so I'm wearing my da's old Citizen eco-drive until I get a battery.

I can appreciate watches as mechanical devices,but like cars,I've never been tempted to own an expensive one.

Santa brought Baby D (6) one of these....

She delights in telling me it's 27 minutes past 5 or whatever, but she's still working on the 'from/to' side of things and stuff like that. Only really half gets the relationship between the current time and when something in the future is going to happen as well.

Still, I was adamant she'd have a traditional face clock and get to grips with that before having anything with a display. Some of her friends have kids smart watches, which does more harm than good IMO. Let her get her head around the basic concept of time first.

I also had something very similar when I was 5/6, I still remember the way it looked. I've pretty much never been without a watch since.

Got a 17 year old here who infuriates her mum by saying it's 47 past 5 when she trys to read a proper watch or clock, she's had a stupid Apple watch for too long.....

I know a few very very clever people who still don't instinctively get a face clock It's easy to laugh at them (I just did!) but if you grew up in the last 20 years, like they did, it'd be very easy to miss any exposure to them.

IMO there's more to it than just being 10:31, reading an analogue dial gives you a better intuition of what it all means. Half past ten is half way around the dial, the tree shrew part of your brain responds to that much better.

Or maybe I'm just over thinking it. I'm hardly ever late though

I had the exact same one as Bobz! I was planning on getting one for Baby D too, but they make much better ones now

It's constantly sending information back and forth to the phone to be sent on to the home data servers. The more info it sends, the more power it uses.

I agree with the previous models. I have always had a bit of trouble sleeping and wanted to monitor my sleep with the app, but then it'd be flat for the next day. But with my new one it easily lasts over 2 days, just one of the reasons why i'm so chuffed with it.

I guess it's not unfathomable that the Apple watch sends enough data/ info back to Apple that results in over 30x less battery life than mine.

I can do sleep tracking and it's then very usable as I can track weeks of sleep without charging rather than 1 night.

I like and find the apple thing easy to use, but think they really need to up the game with battery life in the watch. If they did, I'd probably get one.

You can probably change the synch frequency?

Or...at least...you probably can on any other brand of smart watch. Apple have their own way of doing things

I have a Garmin which I use for running etc, it's set to Synch only on command and lasts ages.

I go to sleep, or I don't. I really don't need a watch to tell me which is which.

Solution looking for a non-problem to solve.

Not being able to read a clock face can also be an Asperger’s trait.

I agree with the previous models. I have always had a bit of trouble sleeping and wanted to monitor my sleep with the app, but then it'd be flat for the next day. But with my new one it easily lasts over 2 days, just one of the reasons why i'm so chuffed with it.

2 days! My Garmin monitors me 24h per day and lasts nearly 30 days between charges (if I don't use the GPS stuff, in which case each day of available charge is equivalent to 1h). 2 days is just shockingly bad.

I suppose my Garmin lasts longer on a charge because I don't use stuff like the O2 monitor, just altitude, pulse, steps, sleep monitoring and email alerts. I only use GPS on hikes. In summer it lasts even longer 'cos it's 'solar'. In sunny places people are getting up to 60 days before needing to plug 'em in.

Some of them monitor your sleep stage (REM deep light) and adjust the alarm timing to suit.

My Garmin is in a drawer. It's a clever thing crammed full of features I have no use for.
