Thanks everyone for the kind words, thoughts and condolences. @demographic, no this is not Trumps but his older brother. I understand Trumps is in the UK now for the funeral.

I got into the funeral director's yesterday and had a visit from a Chief Inspector last night. They are expecting the church, which holds 300, to be full. Richard had worked as plod in quite a few areas of Lancashire and also on RPU so was well known and it seems well liked. You'll have to blame his mother for that I guess. ;)

We have some Irish arriving today, aunts, uncles and cousins and also cousins coming up from Dover. There'll be a police m/cycle escort most of the way from Preston to the church with them being replaced by the horse section closer. His white topped cap will go with him. Still not sure what I did to get a son as a traffic cop . . .

It's the Third Sunday of the month & the day of our monthly Kaw meet at the RockStore. However, I can't see the mountains & there is apparently snow between me & the RockStore. Bikes are staying in the garage & I'm staying home. First meet I've missed since we started this about 3 years ago.
Bugger.

Got some baseboard to refinish sitting in the garage from the recent roof leak, so I'll pull the nails from that & get it stained for reinstall. Roofers will be here on Wednesday.

Fitted the tail tidy yesterday - I didn't have two yellow number plate bolts so it's got one yellow and one white which isn't the professional look that I was going for. I've ordered some.

Pottered about all day making up and fitting some bits of architraving. One of the odd things about getting older is that I'm way better at tuning in to a bit of patience. I'd have rushed that out in a couple of hours max, a few years back.

Insurance dude came out to take a look at the leaking roof. Found a failed repair right at the top of the valley/end of the ridge caps. The roof is backasswards.
In the UK the top-most ridge cap would have flashing to ensure water coming down the roof towards it couldn't get under the cap tiles. (as you likely know). Here they have the top-most ridge cap sitting on top of the tile above it with no flashing. At some point there has been a repair done with *Henry's* which is a tar-like goop sold in quart, gallon & 5 gallon buckets.
Insurance dude said to have the repair redone & see how it holds up during the next storm & not to start tearing off tiles etc... But that still leaves the issue of the failed roof felt above the window.. so the fix will be a combination of reapplying the goop up top & replacing the felt all down the valley.

Not today, but over last few days:

Hand washed and dried both cars, applied rainx to windows, spent an age cleaning the inside of the doris’ car windows, some filthy oik at the dealership must have used a rag dipped in used engine oil to smear them as best as possible.

Fitted personalised plates to my car (birthday pressie from the Mrs)

Moved office from dining room to spare bedroom, just need to get a network cable or two into there so I can shift the rest of the kit up there (printer / media server / cctv / etc) but I need to move wardrobes, lift carpets in two rooms which I’ll pass on for a while ;)

Completed first week of a ten week diy plastering evening course (2 x 3 hour sessions per week) for fun :geek:

They had some baking fund raising thing at work, so I chipped in and ate some cake with my mid morning cuppa. Then another rbit at lunchtime which i didn't want but "c'mon help finish it up there's not many in today", and the same again at 4 o'cock. :? I binned half of the last bit as I felt green round the gills. Felt rough for the rest of the afternoon and riding home I knew I was going to puke. I managed to get home before parting, violently, with the aforementioned cake.

Why are these things always bloody cakes? Why not breads or pies! :hmmm:

Lol, I'm not a sweet tooth person, more savory. Which is very weird as my Mum and Nan were great bakers and we always had tins of cakes growing up. I rarely ate them back then either, but my Mates did lol!

As chalet hosts, we were always told to take cake to the ski shop to get a cheap/free ski service. I did find out part way through the first season that they bloody loved it when someone came in with a savoury treat instead - I made a lot of quiche type stuff to give away that season!!

Weirdly, I bloody love baking cake, but I am not particularly keen on eating it - my friends up here love when I bake - cos I give it away :D :D

Today I ventured forth. De-iced the car, drove through slush and ice for an hour and went 'Ooh!' at the flooding. Had a nice lunch, toured an art gallery exhibition then bought some books, 3 rather nice warm check shirts*, 2 pairs nice warm cashmere socks and a belt, some posh shaving gel...and a can opener. :D

Drove home and resisted totting up how much we'd spent.

Oh...and hit my steps target for the 120th day. :banana-dance:

* probably have to get a café racer now.

Just had a chat with my goddaughter :) Date in the diary for her wedding - I WILL take a weekend off in the winter for it!! (Next winter!!)

I'm so happy, excited for her and a bit emotional. I was having my fingers squished in a big way by her mum when Rose was born, so to be able to go to her wedding is blooming fabulous! :D :D

Severe clear & dry here, so got up on the roof for a look at the damage. Insurance bloke yesterday mention a failed tar repair & hole right at the top pf the valley up-slope from the first ridge tile. What he didn't mention was a tile that was cracked all the way across resulting in a 1/4 gap.
The metal flashing under the valley is full of small bits of broken tile which has trapped dirt causing water to flow off the flashing onto the roof felt stuff.
I can fix the crack & the hole with the Henry's goop & could drag the hose up there to blast the dirt out of the valley... which *should* fix all the issues. Awaiting a decision....
