Why are you adding photos to a cv?Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:03 am Computers![]()

I'm trying to update my CV, I wanted to add photos.
When I import the pic, its way too big, the scaling tool in the app, won't make it small enough.
No worries, google reveals I can resize the image in the preview app on my Macbook. I resize it significantly.
When I import the new image into the pages App I'm using, THE PHOTO IS THE EXACT SAME SIZE
I mean FFS how can that be ??!!
It'll be printed at 80 dpi and they'll look shit. By all means provide links to a gallery online, but i wouldn't be wanting to see photos in the document itself.

Plus it's unlawful to discriminate against someone on the basis of looks* (luckily) so it can't add any benefit

I think in preview you're only changing the viewable magnification?Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:03 am Computers![]()

It's quaint that you think it will be printed, maybe I'll send it by fax ...... I mean, coz it's still 1985 and I couldn't possibly email a PDF file to potential employers.

You'll have to figure out how to work your computer so the picture is the right size first.Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 12:31 pm It's quaint that you think it will be printed, maybe I'll send it by fax ...... If you're using Acrobat to create your PDF just import your image, then click tools and edit pdf and you can use the handle to alter the size of the imported image.Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 12:31 pmPhotos on a CV are the norm in my industry/ location.Rockburner wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:00 amWhy are you adding photos to a cv?Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:03 am Computers![]()

Dude, you can't resize a simple JPEG and you expect us to believe you can convert to PDF and send an email.

My point is that you have no control whatsoever over how your CV will be presented by the HR person to the decision making person.Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 12:31 pmPhotos on a CV are the norm in my industry/ location.Rockburner wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 10:00 amWhy are you adding photos to a cv?Jody wrote: Thu Apr 17, 2025 9:03 am Computers![]()

You've got to accommodate the entire range of possibilities, from it being printed in black and white at 80dpi(so any photos will be pixelated to buggery), read on a phone screen (so photos will be too small to see properly), to viewed on a projector using a poor resolution (so any photos will be indecipherable blurs).
Like i say, do it in ready to read text and provide links to a gallery.

Bloody banks!
I had a bond expire a few days ago and the money transfered to my current account. Today I transferred the bulk of it to a new ISA with a different bank and paid a sizeable bill for my bike tour in July.
You would no believe the hoops I had to jump through over and above the normal security. About 3 screen and 10 boxed to tick, followed by a text to respond to and then a phone quiz from a real live person. All to move MY money.

It's governments trying to turn the banks into policemen.
I shifted last years fixed term cash ISA into a new one recently and I had to tell them what my annual income is.
If I'd wanted to add money to it I'd have had to tell them where the money came from etc etc etc.
(Meanwhile, twice when I rocked up to pay £8 or 9k in cash in a brown envelope in and they asked 'What is the source of the funds?' I just said 'Sold a motorbike'. No further questions. I wanted to say 'A sweet little coke deal' but bottled it.
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

The other problem is the Govt decided that the banks have to bear the loss when stupid people fall for obvioius scams.
I used to use a bank in Hatton Garden, and it was not too unusual for the bloke at the next till to put a briefcase on the ledge and either pay in or draw out many bundles of £000's. As I understand it this was traditional amongst Jewish diamond traders. I wonder how they manage today.

The only time Nationwide has questioned me about the source of cash was when I found an old fiver about the house and took it in to change it for a new one. Sending £1,000s to China: No problem. Paying £1,000s for my new car: No problem. But an errant fiver: "Where did that come from?"

Found out my dog has a suspected brain tumour (on his Pituitary Gland).
Final results pending, but the initial CT review looks that way. Spinal Tap results on Monday along with the official CT results. Then options discussion time. Which I am not looking forward to.

Lost my speedometer on the bike. Only think i can think of i never put the drive back properly. Had to do a 40 mile errant after work so as the sun was out i took the bike. It was when i got to the 60 zones i started to look at the speedo and thought "Im not going back now" The A1 tends to have a few police around tea time so the plan was to stick with the traffic flow but that never worked out. Did what i had to do and on the trip back the bloody rev counter was bouncing all over the shot also. FFS it was perfect at the weekend. Google is all pointing to my speedo drive had either died (Electronic) or the lugs are not seated properly. Rev counter apparently was telling me something was up. Anyway bloody wheel back off at the weekend
