I laughed it off, but the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it was a pretty offensive remark, not to mention stupid as when I recounted what was said this morning the consensus was that we wouldn't be going back again.
And their range of beer was pretty awful too.
My usual response is a one star review starting with Google then anywhere else that matters.

Went for a couple of beers last night, to a pub in East London. It's been taken over by an Irish pub group and was staffed by Irish guys. My colleague, who is half-French, half-Swedish was at the bar ordering a drink and struggling to understand as the barman had a thick Irish accent. I jokingly mentioned she was struggling due to the first-language thing, to which the guy made a comment to me about 'at least she's not English with 800 years of raping and pillaging history, eh?'

Yeah, offensive for sure. Mickey taking amongst mates can stand some offence. Bar staff making a comment like that is offensive.
Your comment to your colleague was made on the back of knowing her well enough to say that; but for the barman to respond that way is appalling.
I have found general racism here (they are generally anti English!! I usually say I'm Irish now!). But no one's been that offensive (they might be in bars where I can't here them!)

I bought a space saver spare wheel for my car. Delivery was supposed to be today or tomorrow so we went shopping yesterday and returned to find the accessory kit (jack, wheel brace etc.) on the doorstep, no wheel. Checked Amazon and it still said delivery would be today or tomorrow so, no problem, right? This morning Amazon had the order marked as delivered. DHL claimed it was "handed to the customer", "signed by [my real last name]" when I was 5 miles away at Tesco
Obviously I called Amazon to let them know I'd only got the least important part of the order. About 10 minutes after hanging up, DHL delivered the wheel.
And it's too big to fit in the wheel well of the car. So that's got to go back.
One redeeming factor is that Amazon's return process is pretty painless.
Still need a spare wheel.

I was too knackered/hurty yesterday to go shopping (needed to buy Cheese, Genepi and a drink called Schweppes Agrum for folks over there) but usually, even on Labour Day, one of the supermarkets is open.
So, I finished clearing out the flat this morning then drove to the nearest big town, then the smaller one, then the next big town and the next - NOPE. Nothing open!!
Luckily the market was on in the small town so I could buy cheeses
Just gonna have to hope that a supermarket near Calais will be selling Genepi!!! (by the time the shops open, I'll be over half way there!!!)
Shouldn't have been so lazy yesterday

The fucking bitch sticking her slap on while driving. She started at a set of temporary lights. Tesy on back of hand brush on face, lights changed quite fast so she was driving while adding this slap. More lights for a junction onto the A1 slip road. As she gets the top off get lipstick she moves forward , indicates at last second and starts applying the lipstick while gaining speed to slip into the A1. Not giving a fuck on the outside lane while soring out any blemishes and still accelerating. Away she went into the distance so if anyone comes across a white Hyundai i10 in a ditch on the A1 heading south. Boot the bitch in the FUD as she dont deserve any help.

ISTR Stiggles has had that plate on multiple vehicles, a Nissan 350Z and a Monaro/other Aussie Vauxhall spring to mind.
Or at least, had it potatoshopped onto multiple vehicles.

Mrs S and I popped out for lunch the other day. Went to a little tearoom a few miles away.
Looked at the menu and went to the counter to order (as it said on the bottom of the menu). When I was ordering the cashier told me there was a 10% service charge but I could take it off if I wanted.
Bloody right I did. I ain’t paying 10% extra for someone to carry a tray of food from the kitchen to the table. That was literally the only time we saw her.
Yes it’s insidiously creeping in to restaurants but this caught me by surprise. It’s a pokey tearoom not the Balmoral (who incidentally only charge 5%)

Same with tipping dominos drivers who are on 25k a year

For several years we've been told we have to have the gold star on driving licenses to identify the "Real ID" version so we can fly on domestic flights.
Today was the deadline to get one, which has lead to pandelerium at the DMV for the past month...
Except today was only a deadline IF you intended to fly TODAY....
& today the media are covering the story from LAX... & finally admitted that you do NOT need a Real ID to fly, you just need one to avoid additional screening at the airport... so basically they've been talking utter bollocks about this for fucking YEARS.
Also:
I got mine when I renewed my d/l in 2000, they're valid for 5 years (mine renewed again two months ago). This means that pretty much everyone has had the opportunity to get one before today's bullshit deadline anyway.
And:
You don't need the Real ID to avoid the additional screening if you have another form of Govt ID... like my Green Card, USAF d/l, USAF ID or A&P ticket...

Rule of thumb: don't charge people for service until they've been fed and, err, serviced.
So, I don't pay a service charge if I'm paying up front. I wouldn't tip before I'd be fed so I'm not paying a charge for service either. Suppose the service is crap, can you demand your service charge back?
It's the

Merkins again. Apparently, in some places there the staff explain that tipping is expected on delivery of each lot of drinks etc. They can do all the 'Hail fellow, well met' stuff and 'have a nice-daying' they want but anyone explaining the expected tipping procedure as I'm being seated in a restaurant will be met with stony silence....or the rear view of me heading out the door.
