First we knew about it was when our female Staff arrived on the bed with a thud freaking out at about 0100ish. I wondered if it was due to thunder and a few seconds later the room lit up. It rumbled over us pretty quick and we had a lot of rain but no power outages.

Maybe it was stuck between the North and South Downs although looking at the map I'd guess Horsham was in the middle of it. Because it was cloudy we didn't see individual lightning bolts just the sky kept lighting up and continuous rolls of thunder and it kept on for about 2 or 3 hours.

It was bright enough you could tell when it was going even in bed with eyes closed!

The dog doesn't't like lightning - so when the distant bangs and crash started, the dog arrived in the bedroom , and Mrs M goes into full mother hen mode. Cue is bed being brought in. As he won't settle at the bottom of the bed, it has to come around to my side.
And it stopped at about 11.30 - and it was quiet. That wasn't the case in Brighton

It was strange. It seemed to 'loiter' over an area - not far away judging by the flash to bang timings - and just mooch about a few hours. Normally they seem to be on a course but this one seemed to take a particular dislike to Horsham.

Well damn I should have had more patience!! LOL She's normally here before 13:00, so I waited till a bit after then cancelled the SIM order and redid it.

FFS, not only did she turn up 30 mins ago, but she had the bank card that was 'missing' AND the SIM card

Oh well. Got to wait for the second SIM to arrive now!!

BUT - I now have in my possession a shiny new French driving licence

Sadly with a photo that looks like something from a WANTED poster

(bad hair day isn't even close as a description!!

). However, they've let me keep my trailer category (for cars), but they didn't let me keep the C & D categories

Stayed with friends this weekend. They cheerfully told us that they'd booked a local restaurant for 8.15 and that we could all meet down 'their club' for some pre-dinner drinks at around 3pm.

Must be a Stockport thing.

Me and Mrs. G gave each other a glance and hastily made excuses for stuff we needed to do that afternoon. Jeez, five hours on the lash? I wouldn't be able to see my dinner, let alone eat it.

Paid for and took delivery of three cubic metres of hardwood logs which were dumped on the kerbside.

Ten barrow trips got them to the house, another hour of hand-balling got them stacked in the log store next to the eight rubble sacks packed full of kindling I processed a couple of weeks ago. I reckon I’ll have enough of that once I’ve processed the remaining scrap wood around the garage.

I’m pleased this is a once a year thing!

Made an appointment for yet another medical connected to driving and filled in all the forms connected to that (it's france, lots of paperwork!!)!!

But now, with my shiny new fronch licence, I can actually get the card that allows me to drive passengers (not just carry the paperwork that shows I've applied!! LOL)

Made ginger nut biscuits and then hitch hiked to the valley for coffee with a mate. Left it a bit later than I should, but two kind people gave me lifts (one only part way, the other took me the rest)

I really enjoy those coffees as we have a very similar brain and sense of humour. Similar but different in politics etc but fully able to disagree or talk around stuff without getting pissy. Bloody excellent

Shared the biscuits with my mate and the cafe owner (also with the cafe owner up here that I go chat with

)

Hitched back - got a lift quite early so practised my french with a Parisien for the journey up to Centre!!

Then the postie came so she got some biscuits too

Now got more paperwork to do cos I didn't do it all yesterday!!

Got up, got dressed and took the dog for a walk. On doctor's orders, I took a litre of water with me to drink one hour prior to the ultrasound test they wanted to do on my bladder.
At 9.15 I set off for the 9.30 appointment, already busting for a pee and the car seemed to find every pothole. Had to park in the overflow (no pun intended) car park, thus having a long walk to the hospital and down the corridors to the scanning dept.
I report in, doing the little 'need-a-wee' jig, which the receptionist sympathised with and told me take a seat. I declined as squashing the bladder seemed a bad I idea.
10 minutes later than advertised, I'm on the bed with a sadist doctor pressing as hard as could on my bladder. 'I suspect you need a pee, now' he quipped. Fuck, did I?
Him and the nurse left the room and pointed me to a funnel device that measures flow. I stand there, dick in hand, and out comes the most pathetic dribble of urine you can image. And it goes on. And on. And on...for about 5 mins. Then stops. The machine starts to print out the graph. I sit down, still busting. I wait for five mins, then jeeeeesus, I need a wee again. Better flow and I manage to have, in my mind, a decent wee. In comes the nurse and looks confused at two print outs from her machine. I quip that she's getting a BOGOF deal. Doctor comes back in and looks at me and tells me that he's never really seen that before.
We do another ultrasound on my 'empty' bladder, only for him to tell me that I still have around 500ml in there, more than most people hold in their bladder. He suspects I have a problem emptying my bladder. You reckon, doc?

. Oh, and your prostate looks larger than normal, he adds....

To add insult to injury, the nurse looks down at my trousers, so I follow her gaze, only to find I've pissed on them.

Got told I had an intolerance to caffeine so avoid that, prescribed Tamfulosin to help ensure I empty my bladder fully. All helps but not a miracle cure.....

Now to try and get to and from Lyon airport without waiting around forever or spending more than the flights!!

Got the pills, bought t-shirt, avoided the pints but things ain't exactly rosy in the urination dept, so a new consultant has me down for a camera up the ol' Jap eye and into the prostate next week and as he put it, 'a 99% certain TURPS' procedure at my convenience.

Can't say as I'm looking forward to either the exploratory procedure or the op itself. That said, I'd have it done the following week, as he suggested, just to get it over and done with, only I've got a few trips lined up and he didn't recommend travelling post-op.

I had the same in UK 10 years ago. Always 100ml still in the bladder. So always need a second 'go' to avoid drippage
