PS there also appears to be 492 users on-line right now. There's about 13 and 479 'guests'.

I pinged them a support request earlier

Still getting this occasionally , just now in fact . Approx 10:50 Sunday 5 jan.

Preceded by the SQL error. Maybe there was a reboot just now?

They replied saying "its your fault"

I replied telling them that's a load of bollox and to look harder at the processes that are using the CPU

Can you temporarily ban guests?

Is that right now? It says in the past 120 minutes to make the site look busy. Reduce that to as low as it goes for real numbers.

589 now. I can't imagine.imagine we had 470+ bona fide users between 6 and 8am on a Sunday ( But it's not that time everywhere obvs).

Correct it's over 120 mins. I don't have a dynamic figure, but I could reduce that. However we always have lots of bots, that's been the case since day 1

Getting hard to even browse now. Every other click is an error message.

Having problems at the moment. Resource limit , and also General Error SQL. Several times in last 10 mins

Lol I know. I'm not sure what you want me to do, I've raised it with the Hosts. It's out of my hands. We have 2 choices,
1. We put up with it till they fix it
2. I disable the forum

That's all I can do lads.

If I look in a few different sections at the bottom I see up to 10 real users and on average 5 'guests' that doesn't seem enough to be 500 users on line. I've not gone through them all but can people look at the bottom of the page when they browse and see if any section has particularly high numbers of 'guests'? Maybe some topic is attracting bots and that topic can be deleted?

I'd be surprised if it was the number of users that is causing the problem - we've had four times more than the current number of users in the recent past:
It's far more likely to be memory or CPU shortage due to an issue at the hosting company.

As specified at the start, a rogue CPU process sitting at 100%.

Sadly that's their side to fix not mine.

Oops,still happening! Not much though,it's liveable.
