The Futuristic Škoda Slavia B Concept

Škoda has released its latest concept vehicle. This one isn’t a car, though; it’s a motorbike. The Slavia B Concept is an electric café racer that has been designed as a tribute to the brand’s first two-wheeler from 1899.

Škoda has said that the reinterpretation of their first bike is all about mixing the old with the new, and the design is heavily inspired by the original Slavia B motorbike produced under the Laurin & Klement name (the company that would ultimately become Škoda Auto).

Designed in-house by exterior stylist Romain Bucaille, the Slavia B concept has replaced the engine with an open space within the frame, with the Škoda logo appearing to float in mid-air. A vertical design line divides the frame, which the brand says symbolises the contrast between heritage and innovation.

The concept is electric, minimalist, and ultra-modern. It carries a lighting signature unique to Škoda, and also has classic café racer elements with a floating seat and integrated leather tool bag.

“I wanted to go back to the brand’s roots. As someone who also loves motorcycles, this was a refreshing change and a great creative challenge.”

I get that it's a concept and has to have the wow factor, hence the gnashing of teeth, but bikes only look like bikes as they've evolved that way: engine down below, tank on top, blah, blah. Why not take a fresh approach?

Although clearly a screen would be practical, as would plate holders, etc. and, as has been said, that fucking great hole could be better repurposed, maybe to store you helmet or summat.

And lose the fucking leather tool bag. Nobody's ever gonna need it.

Concept bikes be concepty right?

It's not supposed to be a bike you'd actually build and ride. It's meant to be thematic, broad brush, an idea. A highly exaggerated example of a direction things might take. You know, conceptual.

I think that's irony in design. The hole is exactly where the sucksqueezebangblow thing is on the original.

TBH it is very like all the other concept bikes designed by car designers that haven't a clue how a bike is ridden. Yes it "looks" like a bike because it's got 2 wheels, one at either end, and a lump in the middle.
