So this is from last August/Sept. When we moved to this house about 5 years ago, there were three outbuildings - a summerhouse in the garden, a massive garden shed and 'poolhouse' (for want of a better description) at the end of the garden by a disused hot tub.

I knew the shed was a pretty wonky and true to form the roof leaked a couple of years later and was duly bodged watertight with a large tarp. It got to the point that it needed to be replaced, but I wanted an upgrade of sorts.

The 'poolhouse' was converted to a workshop soon after we settled in, the summerhouse is my home office and storage for bicycles and camping gear, and the shed was mostly used for storing garden machinery and wood/metal stock and spare parts for various things. The issue I had was that everything was pretty full and I needed temporary storage while a new structure was built.

In addition to the new log cabin, I also purchased a small metal shed for storing the garden equipment and erected it first. The log cabin has two separate areas, so eventually when I convert it to a den for the eldest child and his mates I can still lock some stuff away separately.

With the garden store erected and the mowers, trimmers etc. rehomed I had enough space to store the log cabin until the weather held for a week. It arrived on a curtain side lorry with one Polish driver and together we unloaded it on to the drive. Luckily I had some cold Tyskies in the fridge so gave him a four pack as a thank you for helping me. The next day it took another two hours to move everything to the shed and stack on bearers.

Next was treating the timber on the rear of the shed in case it was tight getting in behind.

Then came demolishing the old shed. And yes, I did fall straight through the rotten roof...

The hedge and trees behind were cleared and the shed base levelled and a weed membrane put down.

Erection (snigger) begins...

Roof fitted

Flooring down, windows and doors fitted.

Two coats of paint to the exterior

Solar panel and 12v system fitted for LED lightening. Crap moved back in.











Now, I'm 51 years old and aside from fitting the double doors where a mate came round to help, I did all of this myself.

Proud? Quite.
Knackered? 100%.
Undertake something like this on my own again? Not a fucking chance...

I don't get the point of just trimming back the weed trees behind the shed & not ripping the roots out? First Dern & now you. Here we'd just get stuck in with a mini-ex for a couple of hours & be done with the problem completely.

Having seen some American yards the preferred gardening tool does seem to be the excavator.

Ya darn tootin! They sell mini-mini ex's here that you could basically keep in the cupboard under the stairs, Having seen a couple up close, they'd be hard pressed to remove a daffodil bulb or dandelion.

My ex bought a place in Texas that had a 3acre front yard & it's ALL lawn. She suffers from RMS (recreational mower syndrome) I mentioned a pic I'd seen of her brother mowing it while visiting. His comment: "It would all be concrete if it was my place"

Getting any plant through the gate and down the side of the path would be impossible. Plus I want it to grow out a bit again as a border for next door. Yee haw and all that crap.

The "store it under the stairs" size here are about 3ft wide.... & powered by mower engines. They're kinda cute & could probably be outclassed by some bloke with a spade

I'd probably hang that ladder on an outside wall & not necessarily on that shed.
