Corner specific rider settings

A first for a production bike, the setup uses GPS data in combination with onboard sensors and predictive software algorithms to apply pre-set engine braking, traction control and wheelie control to individual corners on track automatically, mid-lap, with no rider input required.

Aprilia using GPS data to identify the corner you're on (on track) and applying suitable rider settings, mind blowing stuff.

I assume it's what all the MotoGP bikes do.

Yes Yozza, we all know you'd turn all that stuff off :)

Yeah, yeah yeah :D

But takes a lot away from the rider. Soon the bikes won't have riders and have a techy with laptop racing the bike.

I know where you're coming from, there's the pleasure of man vs machine, taming the beast, etc..., but then you've got the thrill of getting the ultimate lap time to boast down the pub.

GPS is banned in MotoGP. The riders have the ride height device to play with, which is manual and takes bike control to a whole new level. They can switch between maps as well, I've no idea if they use different maps for different parts of the circuit, probably not. I watched a video on ride height, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: found it.

My car does stuff very similar to this, it preemptively changes gear and uses the hybrid systems differently based on what's coming up. For example it will discharge the battery to use E boost up a hill because it knows you're gonna be able to regen brake on the way back down the other side. Stuff like that.

In F1 they use different maps and differential settings for different phases of each corner, let alone different parts of the circuit. All manually done by the driver though.

How does it know there's a downhill coming straight afterwards, out of interest?

It could be that the system uses GPS linked to mapping of elevation.

Or it works on the basis that you can't go uphill for ever :)

Via the twat nag.

Sorry, should have said it only works if you've got a route set.
