Is that link legit? Youtu.be seems a bit odd?

Edit - apparently it is normal, every day is a school day innit 👍

Dave Moss obviously knows his stuff, but I always come away with the impression that he's complicating the topic, not simplifying. I realise that there can be no hard and fast recommendations for tyre pressures, as everyone's case is different (as Dave makes very obvious). But the takeaway message was simply 'test - find out for yourself'. That's fair enough but it hasn't really added much to the sum of human knowledge.

Thing is... I know people who have never touched their suspension settings, let alone experimented with tyre pressures etc.
It is a bit 'suck it and see' admittedly, but if it gets someone thinking, rather than 36/42 please, then that's a good thing in my book!

Yeah, 36/42 is the one size fits all approach, that protects the tyre companies from litigation.

At least it wasn't a 'what tyre shall I buy' video... :)

Never gelled with any of the Dave Moss videos. He just isn't my cup of tea.

I get the impression he's just showing his knowledge but not actually giving away any hard information.

Got to admit from what I've seen none of his information is anything I want. He always seems a bit...dunno, smug. He may know his onions or not but I'm not interested, possibly due to his delivery.

Plus whilst in California it might be possible to generally replicate the same conditions daily to test back to back, in the UK it might be 28C and sunny one day and 18C and pissing down the next. You'd be changing pressures constantly and much of it guess work. The truth is 36/42 works broadly for many people much of the time. I've flitted about over the years but tend to end up close to that. Also running the sort of tests he says without proper test conditions risks yet more guess work. You'd ideally need to check tyre wear properly to know if you've made the right call or not not something you can't properly do over short distances.

Most folk couldn't tell what their pressures are.

Mine recommended on GSXR1000 are 36/42

Last week on track they were 29/24

I rode 240 miles home on race settings and didn't notice anything wrong.

On the GasGas for uk riding they recommend 10 -16

We run 4psi front and rear and that feels amazing.

I'd agree with that. I've rode home from trackdays on track pressure and not noticed anything wrong on the road. Afaiac, as long as there's enough pressure to keep tyre shape, that'll do. 👍

I'd agree with that, especially on the road, I used to lower mine for trackdays, but now I don't bother as I can't really tell the difference.

At present I am running in a new Honda ADV which has Pirelli Karoo block pattern tyres. I bought this model because our roads are in a dangerously bad condition and sure enough I hit a water filled deep pothole only a few days ago at a speed of 40-50 mph. This was a bad impact that threw the bike into a speed wobble which only subsided after the front wheel had come down on terra firma. I stopped as soon as possible and inspected both wheels very carefully but couldn't see any damage so I went on my way. It was about 70 miles later when I got home and I hadn't noticed any particular bad handling or cornering ( running in speed though ). I was quite surprised to find that the front wheel was down to half its recommended pressure, I had checked this only a few days before as I always do with a new bike.

Conclusion may be that these dual purpose tyres are very stiff and running at only 15 psi did no harm although at motorway speeds they might have overheated badly.
