Places to go and live for a rough old scrimper?

I was looking at Chaing Mai. You can get a decent little apartment there for £300 a month. I think you'd probably need £100 more a month for medical insurance. But it's very cheap.

Any other suggestions? What about eastern Europe?

Newport. Close to the beach and you'll be covered by the NHS.

Vietnam seemed nice. And cheap. And sunny.

Lots of noodles, mind.

A mate lives like a king in Thailand and all for the £1500 rent he gets off his place here. He doesn't touch his pensions as he doesn't need to! Plus his mrs is half his age and real durty!

For a rough old scrimper I'd go a little further north than Chiang Mai.

Pai is a great place to disappear to.

It's sand, one of the nicest beaches in the UK, shame about the village behind it, though by current UK standards it's not that bad, Jaywick is the same as it was 20 years ago, the rest if the UK is sinking down to it's level

Check out this restaurant in Chiang Mai. It has crazy cats imagery. And some of the food you get raw and cook at your table, plates of weird looking meats and fish and basil. All for a pence!

Yeah, I was reading an article about the place (it was relatively positive cf any others I've seen) and it said the beach was excellent.

Oh, and one slightly different location. Gainsborough.

Went, just out of interest. It's got some positives (nice uptarted shopping area at Marshall's Yard) but, by gum, the rest of the place looked grim.

Oooh, only been there once, it was in the 90s, it wasn't nice.
