Ear plugs

I am pretty deaf TBH, but should use ear plugs (when I get back on the bike). I have always just used the aceeed yellow ones or the rhubarb and custard jobs. I cannot keep hold of ear plugs and lose them regularly.
Are the new loop style ones really a step up? Would they make an inter come easier to hear (I don’t ride with hearing aids in)
Thoughts?

Bought a set of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/188129808052 ... 5756821324

Way more comfy than foam and easier to hear directions on my helmet speakers.

Tried loads of different types, but always end up back with the Max orange mushroom types.

I've always used Laser lites (rhubarb and custard).

However I've got a new job and the factory has dispensers for the yellow cylinder ones and the orange mushroom ones, so I might give those a try.

Custom moulded jobbies for me, new pair every other year as I can't jive with the foam ones.

Tried a few and ended up with these - I buy a large box every few years.

I use cheap round ended foam ones I got off amazon.

I had a bunch of the 3M yellow foam cylinder ones but when I wore them every bump caused a zing noise in my ears. It was worse than the wind.

I use Loop. I dunno if they are a step up,but I started getting ear ache after about 20 miles or so when using the Xmas tree type. Foam plugs will do the job,but they need to be well in to get a seal and quite often pulling my lid on disturbs them, then it's rinse and repeat, which is annoying.

There is a definite technique to fitting the Loop plugs, but they are the most comfy I have found over long periods, probably because they don't need to be halfway down your ear hole.

I must try a set of those that @Ditchfinder posted, they are considerably cheaper than Loop branded ones, although Loop do come with 3 different sizes.

TBF I have just ordered a couple of pairs 👍
With my earplug retention abilities i cannot justify 35 quid a pair

I think any earplugs make it easier to hear your intercom
(I use the green ones FWIW)

I used various ear plugs over the years before finally settling with the moulded ones. Well worth the money.

Another Loop user here.

Tried various solutions over the years and these are the best solution I have found.
Expanding foam ones are good at noise isolation but give make my jaw ache after a while.
Custom ones were OK but didn't seem to fit well in my ears so noise reduction was not great.

With the Loops I use different sized tips for each ear to get the best fit and as a result they are very comfortable with no aches or pressure points.

I do have a second pair of the cheap knock off version of the Loop, good but the silicone rubber tip is not quite as soft so they tend to irritate after a while.

How do the loop compare to the rhubarb and custard jobs noise blocking wise? I like the almost total noise reduction you get from the rhubarb and custard, but the loop would be less wasteful.

Rhubarb and custard were my go-to. As with others above I'd buy a box of umpteen every now and again.

IIRC there was a time when someone on a previous board incarnation would bulk order on behalf of several of us.

I still have some of them in my travel pack - handy if you end up kipping in a noisy location as they're pretty comfy - or want some peace and quiet on a train/plane etc.

Me and Gf had moulded ones made which we both like but it did show how different peoples ears are.
Even your own ears can be odd shapes each side so its not surprising everyone has there own favourites
rather than one favourite plug.

I find earplugs a massive pain. Got some custom moulded ones were were better than the foam ones, but they still made my ears ache after a while, and so I often rode without.

Recently I've been using Loop, which are great - easy to fit, comfortable, and work.
But I've just been influenced into buying some Hears, which are very similar to Loop, but allegedly more comfortable for long rides, many of which I'm about to do.

I'll report back...

I bought custom moulded ones at the Birmingham Show last year.

I’m pretty underwhelmed by them to be honest. Maybe it’s just those particular ones.

Another Loop user. I've got the Quiet 2 and Switch 2. To be honest I can't really tell the difference no matter what setting the Switch 2 is on, but then my hearing isn't the best, the outer loop is made of hard plastic. The Quiet 2 loop is much softer and more comfortable under a helmet.

This is test is pretty good:
