Can you use an Ipad as a big iPhone?

My mum is well into her eighties. Her eyesight is not good and getting worse.
She's struggling to see her iPhone now. This is hard for her, especially as a lot of her friends co-ordinate activities via Whatsapp etc.
Is it possible to get an iPad and set it up a bit like a big phone? She'd need the icons etc to be much bigger than they are on a regular phone, but maybe that's just a case of zooming in or something.
Any advice appreciated. I stopped using Apple stuff some time ago so don't really know.

Old people use Doro phones with big buttons innit.

Thank you.
I think it's more seeing the screen than pressing the buttons which is the issue.

Fairly certain that it’s possible. My iPad rings when my iPhone rings, I have answered on the iPad in the past but no idea how I set it up in the first place. Ypu still have a keypad and access to contacts on the iPad and she could use it as a speakerphone instead of holding it to her ear.

Yes you can use it as a phone, to a certain extent anyway, WhatsApp, FaceTime etc etc. Possibly even more so if used in conjunction with a iphone but don’t quote me on that.
When I purchased my iPad Pro back in 2018/19 it was a cellular iPad to begin with, had its own number, 5G or possibly 4G then, I can’t remember.
I still use the iPad now but I stopped the cellular side of things and just use it round the house. If I’m doing certain jobs at work like irrigating I take the iPad with me and steal the 5G from my phone allowing me to watch the usual stuff.

If you get one that has a sim slot or esim ability, then no reason why not.
I think that the whatsapp set up is a bit different, but I can't remember why I think that - must have tried it on an old iPad, in which case that may well have been updated now as that would have been a few years ago
It's definitely possible to use an iPad as a phone, it definitely does FB, Messenger and phone texts. So, just verify the whatsapp and it'll be fine
EDIT -
Found this, ok, it's reddit! But it's a year ago, so I think it's ok.
Gimme ten and I'll see if I can download it on mine here (it's a uk one, so I haven't tried before !! )
