I have just bought a new (to me) range cooker, which is dual fuel. I have a gas man coming to connect it on Thursday. With the electrical connection - and I allowed to do this myself , or does this have to be open by a qualified electrician?

If it's provision of a new circuit from the CU, then I believe this should be done by a qualified sparky. However if you feel you are competent and choose to do it yourself, I ain't tellin'...

If it's just connecting the appliance from an existing power point, I'm less sure. You (or whoever you employ) will need proper heat-rated cable to make the connection though.

It would be using the cable that is in the current range cooker. Which is on a proper cooker power supply plug. It’s just as swap over

Depends how confident you are working with a 30 amp supply, Couchy is the best person on here to ask.

Do it yourself, the gas bit too.

It'll only be a bayonet fitting, all the gas man does it check it's not leaking after plugging it in.

You can do that, if you wake up dead, it's leaking. If your house doesn't explode it's fine.

If you can wire a plug you can change a cooker supply.
The gas connection is even easier as it's just a push & twist plug.

The socket is sprung valved, gas doesn't flow until you push the bayonet fitting in.

As has been said, you haven’t given enough info. Do you have a cooker socket to connect it to?

You sound unsure, so for what it would cost, get a man in.

Ask her to define professional, then ask how she will be checking their credentials.
For all she knows any Tom, Dick or Harry could be doing it, especially if she isn't there at the time.
