Hello, I’ve been toying with this for a while, selling the MT07 and getting a maxi scooter type thing. For the last 2 years I have been for 2/3 pleasure ride`s, I genuinely think the commute has take the passion to go ride for fun away, don’t get me wrong I couldn’t handle a train everyday so still want a bike but on my days off I’d much rather go cycling (plus the odd day here and there cycling to work), its 16 miles each way, approx. 5/6 miles on the a3 then the rest through town.

So 4 months ago we swapped our manual car for an auto, I bloody love it, takes the aggro out of traffic jams and the like, so thought why not do the same with a bike/scooter.

I have been looking and really like the Honda X-ADV, now my dilemma is either the 350 or the 750. If I go for the 350 I can get myself a brand new one, or the 750 will be used.

Reviews say the 350 will sit happily at 70 and get to 95, that sounds good, but also its nice to be able to twist the throttle and really go for it, but I guess both are not made for outright speed.

Basically will I miss the power of the 750 if I go for the 350, am I wasting cash by getting the 750 and not the 350 for what ill do. Guessing ill need to go ride the 350 (loads of you guys loved the KTM 350)

The 750 will get stolen. They all do.

I know of three people (two on here) who have had them pinched.

If it is just a commuting tool, why would you need the 750?

Because you're riding it twice a day and losing the TLGP to a Barry boi Corsa gets boring very quickly

When I was commuting by bike 5 days a week I very, very rarely rode for fun. Once I'd clocked 300 miles odd during the week I wasn't arsed to use it at weekends, so yeah it's a bit of a passion killer.

I also found I got my fun during the commute, which lead to some dicey moments with me getting frustrated at the only good bits getting clogged up with cars. Hard to get around that though.

I'd go with the 350 I reckon, but test ride probably needed as you say to see if it has enough go.

Going from an MT07 to a X-Adv, you'll want the 750. Never ridden the 350 mind but the 750 will feel sedate after the MT07.

@formula400 as KFB says, the 750 is a thief magnet. @maccecht had his stolen from his very secure workshop in his garden, thieves really had to go to a lot of effort to get including cutting through the wall of the shed, hacking away at bushes to avoid the CCTV/lighting, moving his Burgman out of the way so as to get the X-Adv out of the workshop... Despite that, I'd still have one for commuting. Storage space isn't as good as compared to a T-Max IIRC, I seem to recall a FF helmet not fitting under the seat, possibly because of the shape of the space available but I could be wrong on that.

Get the 750. And watch out for the TWOC'y lads.

That ^^^! They came to my house to steal mine. They bumped 2 cars to the side of the drive. Took the locks of our gates. Knocked out the security lights. Lifted the front wheel up and wheeled the bike to the bottom of the garden and got the disclock off with an angle grinder. There were also 2 other attempts to steal it in London, in a private carpark with security and cctv. If they weren't sucha thief magnet i'd still have one as I really like them. FWIW I gear good things about the 350.

I love a scooter.

The ADV's are brilliant. I did look at a 350 version before I bought my brand new Xmax 300. If the dealer had been more helpful rather than a total dick, then I may well have cancelled my xmax order and had an ADV 350 instead.

A couple of people I know run the X-ADV 750. They use them far more than their other bikes, they go and handle really well.

I'm really liking my XMax 300, honestly, for commuting they're (and scooters in general) excellent, twist and go, comfy, handle well and away from the lights are quicker than 99% of cars and feel motorbike quick to 30. I'm still running mine in, so don't even use more than half the revs at the moment.

The top speed on mine is listed about 94mph, I can well believe it, my old C400GT scooter (350cc BMW) could do about that. The ADV 350 quotes 1.5'ish more bhp than mine, owing to the extra few cc's. It'll happily cruise along at motorway speeds.

Mpg on mine is 90 at the moment, that'll probably reduce some though when it's run in and I start pushing it along some more.

I have as much fun riding my scooters as I've had riding my bikes for the past few years. As well as commuting, I'm looking at doing some longer distance stuff on it next year as well.

OH, and Peugeot have or are bringing an ADV 350 style of scooter out as well just for info. The XP400 I think it's called.

I am sensing you want a 750. You should get one. As long as you have somewhere safe to keep it.

I think my next bike will be one too.

I am going to try and test ride a 350, I have Tuesday morning off so will call Dobles and see what they say. I think once I’ve ridden it I’ll know.

But another question, the manual for the 750 says for you to take the bike to a dealer to have the chain adjusted, and a few forum posts say they hardly need adjusting.
