Has anyone got experience of changing sensors in their car for aftermarket items?

2017 BMW G31 520D xdrive keeps throwing up a low pressure warning on the near side rear tyre and on checking with two different pressure gauges, there is no loss in pressure, I’ve recently had the tyre off, rim (ooo-err) cleaned up, new valve stem and insert and the tyre reseated and the problem has come back. Various googling shows life expectancy is around 5 - 10 years, so I’m bang in the middle.

BMW forums show results from around the world and a myriad of replacement items, most research shows euro / uk need 433mhz (iirc) and off the shelf items should work assuming they are pre-programmmed with BMW settings.

A search on the BMW part number, via www.realoem.com (really useful) shows original part has been superseded but new version is backwards compatible. Schrader website shows the 2210 part is suitable which is available from - https://www.autodoc.co.uk/schrader/9276 ... %282210%29

Am I right to assume the above will be simple plug and play? Tyres have a reasonable amount of life left, but would it be best to pull the trigger on 4 new tyres as well as sensors?

Do the tyres match on the rear axle?

I don't know how the BMW systems work, but for something like that I'd be looking for OE parts, even getting them fitted by an independant.

FWIW - the VW system on my Eos doesn't use sensors - it uses the wheel-rotation-speed sensors for the ABS to "guess" whether or not the pressures have deviated from a previously set reading. There's a button hidden in the glovebox that resets the readings within the car's database so once you've checked the pressures, you can reset the warning and it'll only come on again if the rotation speeds deviate from what's expected.

Yep, standard size on rear for both front and rear for last 40,000 miles.

@Rockburner, OEM are 5x the price and are either made by Schrader or Bosch depending where you look / which were originally installed.

I'm pretty sure I had one fail on my 2016 5-Series and I replaced it with an eBay cheapie which worked fine.
