Back in my past life we used, and also sold Guhring (German) drill bits.

I use Recol RTD cutting fluid when drilling or tapping - great stuff to help the job along and prolong the life of the cutting tool.

Re: Cbr600fx
My first road race bike was a CBR600FN I think - the one with the non floating front discs.
It had been well used, but it was a great bike, I upgraded to a Suzuki 600 SRAD to race after that, and it wasn't as good (for me) on track.
Get it back to running as it should and you'll have a great little ...

Re: Plasterboard fixings
With heavy items, if you can't use the studding to fix to, I use masonry screwbolts- the fixings like a big self tapper for brick.
Good thing with these is, they don't work by expansion, so you don't have to tighten them to expand them. Drill right through into the brick, and screw into that, gently ...

The shell isn't a problem as long as it's not been dropped etc.
The issue is the polystyrene inner gets harder with age, so less able to absorb the shock of an impact.
But why worry?

Re: New build houses, yeah or nah?
Never had a new build, but had a couple of fairly new houses. They keep warmer, and cost less to heat, but as said - they'd build a house on top of another if they could.
My current house is nearly 200 years old, there's not a crack to be found.
That said, it's a labour of love in many ways, but ...

Hot fill washing machines/dishwashers?
Back in the good old days, I remember there being a hot and cold water supply on some appliances.
Given the cost of electricity, and as my appliances are right next to the kitchen sink( so could run the hot tap) - could I just connect to the hot water?
We don't have the temperature up very high on ...

Re: De-rusting the inside of a fuel tank.
De rusting depends on the mess thats inside. I did a tank on a Triumph Speed Triple which had been lovingly dumped in a garden shed for decades, it was so rusty it took me 2 days of WD-40 and gentle persuasion to get the petrol cap open.

Re: Gas bottle connections and turning on ??
Boil the kettle. Pour the hot water slowly down the side of the bas bottle. shortly after, feel the temperature of the bottle. it will be cold where the liquid gas level is to, and be hot where there's no gas.

Not worth risking, as a thrown chain can be very expensive and dangerous.

Re: Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?
Well, I had the best day of Nissan Leaf ownership a few weeks ago.
It was hit while parked on the road - hit in the rear and shifted forward into the next car.
didn't look too serious, not structural, but the electrics went into meltdown, and wasn't driveable.

Re: Flex ratchet spanners
I got a cheapie set from Aldi a few years ago and are very good. Just don't use the ratchet end to break free stubborn bolts (same with a ratchet) and they'll serve you well.
I clean out the ratchet with carb cleaner or dunk in petrol, then blow out with the compressor.
I tend not to oil them ...

Re: silent compressors ?
Keep an eye on Marketplace, lots of people (like myself) upgrade to a larger compressor and sell their original.
I've had a small Airmate for over 20 years, and it's still going strong. Great for inflating tyres, blowing off dust and water etc.

Hi all.
Looking to buy an enduro bike to do a bit of occasional green lining.
bike for sale locally, WR450 yam, but has never been road registered.
is it easy, or a ball ache? what sort of cost involved?
thanks muchly.

re laying old quarry floor tiles?
I'm renovating the basement room in my old Victorian terrace.
The floor had no damp proofing, just the old fashioned 25mm thick tiles, laid touching, onto blobs of cement.
I dug the floor out, laid a DPM, 100mm Kingspan, 100mm concrete, so now solid, dry and level.

Not read all the replies, sorry but - main thing is to keep the foam dry, or it will rot. Or when you jump on the bike, water will be squeezed out of the foam and down your trouser leg, making you look like you forgot your Tenaman.

2 years into owning my Nissan Leaf 30kw, and it's great for the school run (no warming up to wait for) but that's about it.
Charging on a trip is a complete nightmare, and rapid chargers cost per mile pretty much the same as diesel.
