Went to the Mrs mate's for BBQ on Sunday. Her husband got back into biking after 20 years due to needing to commute into London a year or 2 back. He was keen to show me his bike, a 1290 Super Adventure. Very nice it was too, looked good and packed full of tech Inc front/rear heated seats, heated grips, leccy suspension, modes, cruise control, cornering lights etc.

He then turned on the ignition to show me the dash, which was when I saw the 85k miles Got to say it definitely wore its miles well and he'd had no issues. Turns out he bought it with 50k on and has done 35k in just over a year. Not that unusual I know but fairly unusual with most of us. And a different KTM story for a change, must say I've read of a few high mile KTM Adv

I think Weekly had a Super Duke at one point with moon and back miles on it.

I wouldn't worry in the slightest about the ADV of any generation, from the 990, 1050, 1090, 1190 or 1290, they run forever if looked after.

35,000 is a massive figure lol.... i can't compute spending that much time in/on a vehicle.

My (Druid's) VFR had 75k on it when I sold it and it was still going strong. The only MOT issue it had in the years I owned it was a deteriorated number plate. Started on the button every time.

Highest mile bike I owned was a GPZ600R, I bought it for £600 and it had 36k on the clock. It sounded ace because of all the holes in the exhaust.

I bought my Sprint ST with 25k on it and two years later sold it on with 77k on. Great bike, perfect for that mileage.

This has certainly been looked after it goes into Jim Aim every 10k or whatever the service intervals are and has done since new.

Oh yeah his first bike after returning to the saddle was a Tranny which he took to 93k. Managed to sell that for 100 quid less than he paid!

My Tiger 800 has just over 60k on the clock and it hasn't really had any major issues, the most expensive was the starter motor failing to work when hot.

Covid WFH has saved me about 15k miles.

On the other side of the coin I was chatting to my Dad about the KTM and he said his Fazer clicked over 10k miles yesterday. It's 17 years old!

There is no way of knowing but I'd love to know how many miles my Rudge has clocked up since 1936,

The Bonneville is currently showing ~5k on it's original speedo. My wife remembers when he Dad called her out to the garage to show her it was on 99,999 miles.

A mate has a Honda bros that has done 285000 and still going.

Sold my SH300 with 85k on it and still running well, didn't use oil or leak water etc. Sounded the same at 80k as it did at 8k tbh.

I've sold a few bikes to Eastern Europeans and they never understand our fear of mileage on bikes.

Bought my 1200gsa in Feb 21, it had 2700 miles on the clock. Its 15years old.

FZ750 has just gone over 63000 miles, which is pretty pathetic for a 31 year old bike, I had an R1 in 2000 that had done 36000 miles when I got rid of it, 18000 miles per year, but best was the little CB400SF I had that had done 65000 miles when I sold it to a TRC member, it didn't use any oil and ran very smoothly.

I had a 350 YPVS that had done over 35000 miles and was still on original bores (not the original rings though, I used to change them when they started to feel tired)

OTOH I've had bikes that went wrong at low mileages, usually due to cack handed owners, and a YZ125F that used a piston ring every 30 minutes of running, it had huge ports and a very narrow power band.

My ZXR400 had 54,000 on it when I sold it (I don't know how much use it got aftwards), was still going string at that time.

My 3rd Rockster went to approximately 130,000 before it blew up (approx because I ran it daily for a few months with no speedo/tacho). I bought it 2 years old with 1,200 on the clock.
(Rock 2 had about 44,000 ish iirc after nearly 2 years).

I've always found that bikes tend to run better if they're used more often (with maintenance), the longer they're sitting idle the more things start to go wrong with them.

My 2010 Ktm rc8 le Akrapovic sits here with 1007 miles on the clock, yes I prefer looking at it and riding the 790 duke.

I remember selling my ZK4 years ago with 45k on the clock and this trader bellend was like “to the moon and back” and all that jazz…………only shortly after he was selling a ZK4 which had more miles and was in poor condition and was coming away with “mileage means nothing when looked after”……silly fuck that he was.
